Martin D. Hamilton
Martin Davis Hamilton (1855-1922) was an American Republican politician from San Diego, California. He served as acting Mayor of San Diego following the resignation of William Jefferson Hunsaker. Military Hamilton fought for the Union in the American Civil War, where he lost an arm. After the war, he was an active member of the Grand Army of the Republic's Heintzelman Post No. 33. Elected office Hamilton was active in San Diego local politics and was elected to several positions over time. Hamilton was a staunch republican and ran on the local party's "Citizen's Non-Partisan" ticket. Hamilton's first elected to office was City Assessor, where he served from 1880 until 1885. William Jefferson Hunsaker
William Jefferson Hunsaker (1855–1933) was an American lawyer and politician from San Diego and later Los Angeles, California. Hunsaker was the San Diego County District Attorney from 1882 to 1884, 4th Mayor of San Diego from 1887 to 1888 and president of the California Bar Association from 1913 to 1914. Douglas Gunn
Douglas Gunn (August 31, 1841 – November 26, 1891) was an American scholar, publisher, pioneer and Republican politician from California. Born Lewis Douglas Gunn on August 31, 1841, in Wheelersburg, Ohio, to Dr. Lewis Carstairs Gunn and Elizabeth LeBreton (Stickney) Gunn. He was middle-named for Frederick Douglas. His family moved to Sonora, California, in 1852, where his father bought and ran the ''Sonora Herald''. In 1861, his family moved to San Francisco, where his father edited the ''Times'', then they moved again in 1868 to San Diego. During this time Douglas Gunn learned the newspaper trade, working for the ''San Diego Union''. He lived in New Town San Diego and walked daily to Old Town, where the paper was published.
