Martha Mulkins
Commodore (Canada), Commodore Marta Mulkins, is a Canadian Forces Naval Reserve officer. Mulkins began her career in the Naval Reserve through a Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) at HMCS Donnacona. Originally joined as a Diesel Mechanic she later attended Junior Leadership Training at Canadian Forces Fleet School Esquimalt and was promoted to Naval Cadet in 1988. Mulkins would later go on to serve many positions on various Canadian Ships. Eventually, she came into command of the Canadian minor warship HMCS Kingston in 2003, becoming the first woman to do so. In 2015, Mulkins was appointed as Commander of the Naval Reserve. Commodore (Canada)
Commodore (Cmdre; ) is a Canadian Forces rank used by commissioned officers of the Royal Canadian Navy. Brigadier-general is the equivalent rank in the Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Air Force. It is the lowest general/flag officer rank, senior to a naval Captain (colonel in Canadian Army or Air Force), and junior to a rear admiral (major general). Michael Hopper
Michael Hopper (born March 1969) is a Canadian Forces officer who served as commander of the Naval Reserve from July 29, 2018 until 2021. Hopper holds the rank of commodore in the Royal Canadian Navy and also works as a teacher with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB). Background Hopper was born in Ottawa, Ontario in March 1969 and first joined the Primary Reserves in 1986 when he was 17 as a cook at HMCS ''Carleton''. He transferred to HMCS ''Scotian'' in Halifax while attending Dalhousie University. Hopper moved back to Ottawa, where he earned his bachelor of arts (BA) and bachelor of education (BEd) from the University of Ottawa in 1996 and began working with the OCDSB. Canadian Forces' Decoration
The Canadian Forces' Decoration (post-nominal letters "CD") is a Canadian award bestowed upon members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have completed twelve years of military service, with certain conditions. By convention, it is also given to the Governor General of Canada upon his or her appointment as viceroy, which includes the title of Commander-in-Chief in and over Canada. The decoration is awarded to all ranks, who must have a good record of conduct during the final eight years of claimed service. The first Governor General to receive the CD was Viscount Alexander of Tunis in 1951. The medal was initially awarded to all members of the Royal Family who served in the Canadian Forces, even without completion of twelve years of service; this has, however, not been automatic since 1953.
