Martha Cunz
Martha Cunz (24 February 1876 – 15 May 1961) was a Swiss artist who is best known as a printmaker. As one of the earliest 20th-century European artists to master the modernist woodcut, she was influential on other artists. Education and travels Martha Cunz was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland. She received most of her art training at the Women's Art School in Munich, where her teachers included Christian Landenberger, Ludwig Schmid-Reutte, and Peter Paul Müller. In 1900, she went to Paris to study with Luc-Olivier Merson and Lucien Simon. The following year, back in Munich, a course in lithography with Ernst Neumann sparked her interest in printmaking. By the following year, she had moved on to woodcuts, and in 1903 she became a founding member of the German Association of Graphics. Christian Landenberger
Christian Adam Landenberger (7 April 1862, Ebingen - 13 February 1927, Stuttgart) was a German Impressionist painter and a professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. He is especially known for his landscapes. Life He was the second in a family of nine children. His parents operated a haulage business. He began his art studies at the Royal Art School of Stuttgart in 1879. From 1883 to 1887, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, where he had his first exposure to the new ideas in art that were circulating there. In 1890, he had his first public display at the Munich International Art Exhibition in the Glaspalast and, two years later, became one of the founding members of the Munich Secession. Carl Thiemann
Carl Thiemann (November 10, 1881 – December 3, 1966) was a Bohemian artist and member of the Vienna Secession, best known for his color woodcuts. Life Carl Theodor Thiemann was born in Carlsbad, Bohemia, which was then part of the Austrian Empire (it is today known as Karlovy Vary and is in the Czech Republic). His father died when he was young, leaving the family in distressed circumstances; as a result, he initially went into trade rather than training as an artist. Eventually he was able to study at the Art Academy in Prague, first as a painter and later as a printmaker. He became interested in the Japanese technique of printing color woodcuts using water-based inks, which was then a new technique in Austrian art circles. In 1904 he moved to Prague and set up a studio with the artist Walther Klemm. In 1908, he and Klemm moved to the Dachau art colony, where he became a cofounder of the Dachau Artists' Association. Ludwig Schmid-Reutte
Ludwig Schmid-Reutte (13 January 1863 - 13 November 1909) was a Germany naturalist painter. Biography Ludwig Schmid-Reutte was born in Lechaschau, a mountain village to the west of Garmisch and Innsbruck. Franz Anton Schmid, his father, was a peasant farmer who also worked as a builder and stone mason. Ludwig attended school locally and then moved across the nearby border into Bavaria (which had recently been subsumed into an enlarged German state) and worked as a "Builder's henchmen" (''"Maurer-Handlanger"''). In 1878 he was able to enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich where he was a pupil of fellow Tirolean Franz Defregger and of Ludwig von Löfftz. Lovis Corinth was a contemporary. World War I
