Marsica Earthquake Of 1915
Marsica is a geographical and historical region in the Abruzzo, central Italy, including 37 '' comuni'' in the province of L'Aquila. It is located between the plain of the former Fucine Lake, the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, the plain of Carsoli and the valley of Sulmona. The area takes its name from the Marsi, an Osco-Umbrian Italic people, and then from the Latin adjective ''marsicus''. In the center of the area there is the Fucino former lake, dried up in 1877, surrounded by parks and nature reserves. Avezzano is the most populous city of the territory. Marsica has about 130,000 inhabitants as of 2019. Massa D'Albe
Massa d'Albe is a ''comune'' and town in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. It is part of the Marsica. The town was founded in the 14th century by the inhabitants of the ancient Alba Fucens, whose remains are in the area. The current ''comune'' was formed after 1915 by the union of two former ''comuni'', Massa and Corona, destroyed by an earthquake. Geography The central nucleus of the inhabited area lies on the south-western slopes of Mount Velino, one of the highest peaks of the central Apennines (2,487 m). Part of the territory is included in the Sirente-Velino Regional Park and in the Monte Velino Natural Reserve. In a gorge of the mountainous group of Velino opens the Bocca di Teve (987 m) situated at the beginning of the homonymous valley that marks the border of Abruzzo with Lazio and with the Montagne della Duchessa Regional Reserve. Civita D'Antino
Civita d'Antino ( la, Antinum) is a ''comune'' and town in the province of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo region of Central Italy. History ''Antinum'' was a city of the Marsi: it is mentioned in ancient sources only by Pliny, who enumerates Antinum among the cities of the Marsi. The numerous inscriptions that have been discovered in the modern village suggest that it must have been a municipal town of considerable importance. Besides these, there remain several portions of the ancient walls, of polygonal construction, with a gateway of the same style, which still serves for an entrance to the modern village, and is called Porta Campanile. The Roman inscriptions confirm the testimony of Pliny as to the city being a Marsic one (one of them has ''populi Antinatium Marsorum''); but an Oscan inscription which has been found there is in the Volscian dialect, and renders it probable that the city was at an earlier period occupied by that people.
