Mars Hill Lions
The Mars Hill Lions are the athletic teams that represent Mars Hill University, located in Mars Hill, North Carolina, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Lions are full members of the South Atlantic Conference, home to 18 of its 21 athletics programs. The men's and women's swimming programs are members of the single-sport Appalachian Swimming Conference, and the acrobatics and tumbling team is an associate member of Conference Carolinas. Mars Hill have been members of the SAC since its founding in 1975. Mars Hill University
Mars Hill University is a private Christian university in Mars Hill, North Carolina. The university offers 35 undergraduate majors and includes a school of nursing and graduate schools in education, criminal justice, and management. From 1859 to 2013 the school was called Mars Hill College; in August 2013 it officially changed its name to Mars Hill University. History Mars Hill University was founded in 1856, and it is the oldest college or university in western North Carolina. It started as the French Broad Baptist Institute, sharing a name with the nearby French Broad River. In 1859, the university changed its name to Mars Hill, in honor of the hill in ancient Athens on which the Apostle Paul debated Christianity with the city's leading philosophers. NCAA Division II (D-II) is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III. Meares Stadium
Meares Stadium is a 5,000-capacity stadium located in Mars Hill, North Carolina where it serves as home to the Mars Hill College Lions. Meares Stadium has gained a reputation as a tough place to play due to its location in the windy North Carolina North Carolina () is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is divided into three divisions based on scholarship allocation. Each division is made up of several conferences for regional league competition. Unless otherwise noted, changes in conference affiliation will occur on July 1 of the given year. Jonas Randolph
Jonas Randolph (born December 1, 1990) is a former American football player who won the Harlon Hill Trophy in December 2011. Early life Randolph graduated from Daleville High School in Daleville, Alabama. At Daleville, Randolph won all-state honors as a running back in his senior year, and was honorable mention all-state in his junior year. Mars Hill College While playing as a running back for the Mars Hill College Lions he rushed for 5,608 career yards, a school record and South Atlantic Conference record. Harlon Hill Trophy
The Harlon Hill Trophy is an award in American college football given to the individual selected as the most valuable player in NCAA Division II. The award is named for former University of North Alabama and National Football League player Harlon Hill. It was first given in 1986 to Jeff Bentrim of North Dakota State University. It is often considered to be the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
