Venus And Mars (sculpture)
''Hadrian and Sabina as Mars and Venus'' is a tall marble statue of 120–140 AD (with restorations of c. 170–175). The male figure originally represented the emperor Hadrian, but its head has later been restored to that of Lucius Verus. Shown in the guise of Mars, this makes Hadrian one of the first emperors to be portrayed as a god during his lifetime rather than be posthumously apotheosized. The female figure, in the pose of the Capuan Venus, arms him. The present female head, changed in antiquity, does not belong to the body and portrays Lucilla (Lucius Verus's wife) - the original head was probably that of Vibia Sabina, Hadrian's wife. The group reflects the hellenizing taste of the Hadrianic era and the revival of the neo-classical or Neo-Attic Neo-Attic or Atticizing is a sculptural style, beginning in Hellenistic sculpture and vase-painting of the 2nd century BC and climaxing in Roman art of the 2nd century AD, copying, adapting or closely following the style s ...

Venus And Mars (Botticelli)
''Venus and Mars'' (or '' Mars and Venus'') is a panel painting of about 1485 by the Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli. It shows the Roman gods Venus, goddess of love, and Mars, god of war, in an allegory of beauty and valour. The youthful and voluptuous couple recline in a forest setting, surrounded by playful baby satyrs. The painting was probably intended to commemorate a wedding, set into panelling or a piece of furniture to adorn the bedroom of the bride and groom,Lightbown, 164 possibly as part of a set of works. This is suggested by the wide format and the close view of the figures. It is widely seen as representation of an ideal view of sensuous love. It seems likely that Botticelli worked out the concept for the painting, with its learned allusions, with an advisor such as Poliziano, the Medici house poet and Renaissance Humanist scholar. The exact date of ''Venus and Mars'' is not known, but the National Gallery's dated the painting to "c. 1485" in 2017. ...

Venus And Mars (Veronese)
''Venus and Mars'' is an oil painting on canvas painted in the 1570s by the Italian Renaissance artist Paolo Veronese. The painting was commissioned by Emperor Rudolph and was one of three mythological and love-themed works commissioned by the artist. The other two are at the Frick Collection in New York: ''The Allegory of Virtue and Performance'' and ''Allegory of the Source of Wisdom and Power''. It deals with the romantic love of the Roman goddess of love Venus and the god of war Mars, as described in the Ovid's ''Metamorphoses''. Description The meeting of the two lovers takes place in idyllic, peaceful scenery. On the left stands the naked goddess, with her left hand embracing Mars, who sits in front of her in armor. The right hand of Venus rests on her breast from which milk flows, emphasizing her femininity. On the right side there is a war horse of the god of war. Its silhouette is based on antique sculpture. The underlined musculature of the animal expresses his str ...

Venus And Mars (Wings Album)
''Venus and Mars'' is the fourth studio album by the British–American rock band Wings, and the sixth album by Paul McCartney after the break-up of the Beatles in 1970. Released in May 1975 as the follow-up to ''Band on the Run'', ''Venus and Mars'' continued Wings' run of commercial success and provided a springboard for a year-long worldwide tour. The album was McCartney's first post-Beatles album to be released worldwide by Capitol Records rather than Apple. After recording ''Band on the Run'' as a three-piece with wife Linda McCartney and guitarist Denny Laine, McCartney recruited guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Geoff Britton to the band in 1974. Recording sessions for the album took place in London, New Orleans and Los Angeles in November 1974 and early 1975. During the sessions, personal tensions caused Britton to quit after six months, forcing the band to recruit American drummer Joe English to finish the album. Preceded by the single "Listen to What the Man Said ...

The Loves Of Mars And Venus
The ''Loves of Mars and Venus'' by John Weaver was arguably the first modern ballet, the first dance work to tell a story through dance, gesture and music alone. Its first performance was at London's Drury Lane Theatre on Saturday 2 March 1717. Background Before 1717 ballet had always been part of operas and plays and dependent on their words to narrate the drama. ''The Loves of Mars and Venus'' was a danced drama, equal to the plays seen on London’s stage, described in its own time as a ‘Dramatic Entertainment of Dancing’, “the first of this kind produced upon the British Stage or in the Kingdom”. All the action was conveyed in dance and mime alone, setting a pattern for future ballets”. The story Weaver’s ballet tells the story of the love affair between Venus, the goddess of love, and Mars, the god of war, and the revenge enacted on them by her husband Vulcan. It draws on classical mythology, but contemporary passions abound, and its immediate source was P ...
