Alan Marre
Sir Alan Samuel Marre (25 February 1914 – 20 March 1990) was a British Civil Servant, serving most notably as Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration and as the first Health Service Commissioner for England, Scotland and Wales. Marre was the son of an immigrant tobacconist and was educated at St Olave's Grammar School in Orpington, Kent. He went to Trinity Hall, Cambridge where he achieved a double first. He joined the Ministry of Health and was Assistant Principal in 1936. He became, in turn, Principal in 1941, Assistant Secretary in 1946 and then Under-Secretary between 1952 and 1963. Marre moved to the Ministry of Labour and served as Under-Secretary until 1964. He was appointed Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Health, where he stayed until 1966 when he returned to the Ministry of Labour as Deputy Secretary. Albert Marre (September 20, 1924 – September 4, 2012) was an American stage director and producer. He directed the stage musical ''Man of La Mancha'' in 1965, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical. He enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve where he was initially held the rank of Seaman Apprentice. Harry "Hap" Marre was an early twentieth-century American soccer inside left who spent his entire professional career in the St. Louis Soccer League. Marre, a native of St. Louis, Missouri and brother of National Soccer Hall of Fame member John Marre, gained his greatest fame as a member of Ben Millers. Most details regarding his career are obscure, but he is listed on the Ben Miller roster as early as 1916. In 1917, he was the captain of Ben Millers. In 1918, he joined the United States Navy during World War I, playing for the Navy's soccer team. Jeremy Marre (7 October 1943 – 15 March 2020) was an English television director, writer and producer who founded Harcourt Films and made films around the world. Much of his work focused on musical subjects. His reputation was made with the ''Beats of the Heart'' series, which introduced elements of what is now called world music, and its performers, to the Western world. ''Rhythms of Resistance'', a film in the series, was where Paul Simon first saw Ladysmith Black Mambazo, who played a prominent role on Simon’s Graceland (album), Graceland album.
