Marquis Classics is a Canadian record label, founded in 1981 by Earl Rosen. The company is based in Toronto and owned by Rosen and Dinah Hoyle. Marquis specializes in Jazz and Classical recordings. The label's recordings are distributed in North America by Entertainment One Music Distribution. MNRK Music Group (pronounced "monarch", formerly known as Koch Records and eOne Music) is a New York City-based independent record label and music management company. Amanda Forsyth
Amanda Forsyth (born 12 October 1966) is a Canadian cellist and the former principal cellist of the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Biography Daughter of composer Malcolm Forsyth, Forsyth came to Canada from South Africa at age 2 and began playing the cello at age 3. She became a protégé of William Pleeth in London and later studied with Harvey Shapiro at the Juilliard School in New York City and with Lynn Harrell in Los Angeles. After two seasons with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, she became the youngest principal ever selected by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra where she remained for six years. In 1999, Forsyth was appointed principal cello of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, a position she left in 2015 to pursue her solo and chamber music career. Catherine Manoukian (born June 2, 1981) is an Armenian-Canadian violinist. Biography Background and early life Catherine Manoukian was born in Toronto. Her parents were professional violinists and met at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where her father studied with Carlo Van Neste and her mother studied with Arthur Grumiaux. Christina Petrowska Quilico (born December 30, 1948) is a Canadian pianist. She is a professor emerita, senior scholar at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2020 “For her celebrated career as a classical and contemporary pianist and for championing Canadian music.” In 2021, she was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Donald Patriquin
Donald Patriquin (born October 21, 1938 in Sherbrooke, Quebec) is a Canadian composer, organist, and choral conductor. Known internationally for choral and instrumental arrangements of folk music, Patriquin was a member of the Faculty of Music of McGill University from 1965 to 1996. He currently resides in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Musical background Patriquin began composing at the age of 11, winning several awards through his youth while studying composition with Jean Papineau-Couture during summer sessions. Leonard Hokanson
Leonard Hokanson (August 13, 1931 – March 21, 2003) was an American pianist who achieved prominence in Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. Early life and education Born in Vinalhaven, Maine, he attended Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts and Bennington College in Vermont, where he received a master of arts degree with a major in music. He made his concert debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the age of eighteen. He was drafted into the U.S. Army after graduate school, and in December 1955, he was a private performing in the 11th Airborne Division Band at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Later, he was posted to Augsburg, Germany. Patricia Mary O'Callaghan (born October 2, 1970) is a classically trained Canadian singer. She is a soprano who has built an international reputation as a performer of contemporary opera, early 20th-century cabaret music and the songs of Leonard Cohen. The Poulenc Trio is an American chamber music ensemble and oboe–bassoon–piano trio, formed in 2003. The current members are pianist Irina Kaplan Lande, bassoonist Bryan Young and oboist Aleh Remezau. Trevor David Pinnock (born 16 December 1946 in Canterbury, England) is a British harpsichordist and conductor. He is best known for his association with the period-performance orchestra The English Concert, which he helped found and directed from the keyboard for over 30 years in baroque and classical music. He is a former artistic director of Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra and founded The Classical Band in New York.
