Marne Medal
The Marne Medal (French - ''médaille de la Marne'') was a French medal awarded to soldiers who had fought in the First Battle of the Marne, the Second Battle of the Marne or both engagements, particularly those who took part in fighting between 6 and 12 September 1914 on the Senlis front at Verdun. It was inaugurated on 21 August 1937 by the ''Les Soldats de la Marne'' association, later succeeded by the ''Mondement 1914'' association. It was presented to Charles de Gaulle by the association's president, commander Paul Gauvin at Esternay, with the radio journalist Jean-Pierre Elkabbach also present. Insignia The medal was a 27mm diameter bronze disc, with an obverse showing a helmeted head, a sword handle and the inscription "LA MARNE" and a reverse inscribed "SOLDAT DE LA MARNE" (soldier of the Marne) in large characters in the centre, "1914" at the top and "1918" at the bottom, all surrounded by a laurel wreath. The Orient campaign medal (french: "Médaille commémorative d'Orient") was a French military medal bestowed for participation in the battles against the Central Powers by the Allied Eastern Army between 1915 and 1918. These battles culminated in the 1918 successful offensive under French general Louis Franchet d'Espèrey in Macedonia knocking Bulgaria out of the war and the overrunning of much of the Balkans. 1914–1918 Inter-Allied Victory Medal (France)
The 1914–1918 Inter-Allied Victory medal (french: "Médaille Interalliée de la Victoire 1914–1918") was a French commemorative medal established on 20 July 1922. It was the French version of a common allied campaign medal where each allied nation issued a Victory Medal to their own nationals, all issues having certain common features, including the same ribbon, a winged figure of victory on the obverse and a similar inscription on the reverse, the French version reading "LA GRANDE GVERRE POUR LA CIVILISATION 1914-1918". It was awarded to all soldiers who served three months, consecutive or not, between 2 August 1914 and 11 November 1918 in the war zone. It was also awarded to civilian nurses, aliens (civilian or military) who served directly under French command, marshals and generals who had a command for at least three months, prisoners of war from Alsace and Lorraine who then served in the French forces. Jean-Pierre Elkabbach
Jean-Pierre Elkabbach (born 29 September 1937) is a French journalist. Biography Elkabbach was born to an Algerian Jewish family in Oran in 1937, then the prefecture of the ''département d'Oran'' in French Algeria. He began his journalistic career in 1960 as a radio correspondent in Algiers, but having taken part in the strikes of May 1968, he was sidelined and sent to Toulouse. Elkabbach would later spend time in Bonn, Germany, before venturing into television news in 1970. From 1993 to 1996 he served as president of France 2 and France 3, from 1999 to 2009 he was president of the television station Public Sénat, and he was at the helm of Europe 1 from 2005 to 2008.
