Marlys Edwardh
Marlys Anne Edwardh, CM (born 6 March 1950) is a Canadian litigation and civil rights lawyer recognized for upholding the causes of justice and the rights of the wrongfully accused. She was one of the first women to practise criminal law in Canada. She graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School, holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of California, a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Carleton University, and an honorary Doctorate in law from the Law Society of Upper Canada. She was called to the bar in 1976. Security Certificate
In Canada, a security certificate is a legal mechanism by which the Canadian government can detain and deport permanent residents and all other non-citizens (i.e., foreign nationals) living in Canada. It is authorized within the parameters of the ''Immigration and Refugee Protection Act'' (IRPA; which replaced the ''Immigration Act, 1976''), specifically sections 33 and 77 to 85. It was amended and took on its present structure in 1991, with an additional amendment in 2002. According to Public Safety Canada, the overarching agency dealing with the law, the security certificate provision has existed in "one form or another for over 20 years." Sinclair McKnight Stevens, (February 11, 1927 – November 30, 2016) was a Canadian lawyer, businessman and cabinet minister. Early life He was born in Esquesing Township (today part of Halton Hills, Ontario), the third child of Northern Irish immigrants Robert Murray Stevens and Anna Bailey McKnight. The family later moved near Kleinburg, Ontario. He attended Weston Collegiate Institute and later, the University of Western Ontario, class of 1950.
