Marlena Wesh
Marlena Hilari Wesh (born February 16, 1991) is a Haitian-American sprinter who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics for Haiti in the women's 200-meter and 400-meter sprints. Biography She was born and raised in Virginia, but is eligible to compete for Haiti because both her parents were born and raised there. She has never been to Haiti though she is a citizen there also. Four of the five athletes representing Haiti at the 2012 Olympics are not from Haiti. Wesh says, "I still feel Haitian even if I wasn't born there". After graduating from Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2009, she enrolled at Oklahoma, where she was given a full scholarship, but later she transferred and she enrolled at Clemson University in South Carolina and should graduate in 2013. She is majoring in psychology. Darrell Wesh (born 21 January 1992) is a Haitian-American athlete competing in sprinting events. Earlier he represented the United States. He is the Haitian 100m record holder at 10.16 seconds. He graduated from Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2010 and Virginia Tech in 2015, earning a degree in property management. 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships In Athletics
The 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics were held at the Centro Paralímpico Nacional in Irapuato, Mexico from 6 to 8 July. It was the seven edition of the biennial athletics competition for NACAC area athletes under 23 years of age. A total of 44 track and field events were contested, divided evenly between the sexes. It was the third time that Mexico had hosted the event, having done so in 2000 and 2008. Over 400 athletes from 23 nations competed at the championships. Eleven championship records were broken at the competition, with particularly strong performances in the sprint events. Jason Rogers equalled the 100 metres record while Auriyall Scott improved the women's time. The 2011 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics were held in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The event served as classifiers for the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and took place from July 15–17, 2011. It was the fourth time Puerto Rico hosted the event; the first time in Ponce in 1975, and later in San Juan in 1989 and 1997. The Jamaican delegation topped the medals table with 26 medals (ten of them gold). Mexico was the next most successful nation with ten golds and a total haul of twenty medals, while Trinidad and Tobago took third with five golds and fifteen medals. Cuba, which had dominated the previous three editions, sent a small, weakened delegation and finished fifth (although seven of its nine athletes won medals).
