Marktredwitz
Marktredwitz () is a town in the Wunsiedel (district), district of Wunsiedel, in Bavaria, Germany, close to the Czech Republic, Czech border. It is situated 22 km west of Cheb, 50 km east of Bayreuth and 50 km south of Hof/Saale. Marktredwitz station is at the junction of the Nuremberg–Cheb railway and the Weiden–Oberkotzau railway, Munich–Hof railway. The town celebrated the Horticultural Show 2006 in cooperation with Cheb. Marktredwitz Station
Marktredwitz station is the station of the major district town of Marktredwitz in the Bavarian administrative region of Upper Franconia. Two main lines, the Nuremberg–Cheb railway and the Weiden–Oberkotzau railway, cross at the station. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a German railway station categories, category 3 station and has five platform tracks. Marktredwitz station—still called Markt Redwitz at the opening of the station—is an important railway hub in Northern Bavaria. It is located in the northwest of the town and is about a five-minute walk from the town centre. In the station forecourt (german: Bahnhofplatz) is the central bus station, where buses connect Marktredwitz with the surrounding area. The bus station is also the stopping point of the Bavaria–Berlin Express (BEX). Nuremberg–Cheb Railway
The Nuremberg–Cheb railway is a 151 km long, non-electrified main line, mainly in the German state of Bavaria. It runs from Nuremberg via Lauf an der Pegnitz, Hersbruck, Pegnitz (city), Pegnitz, Speichersdorf, Kirchenlaibach, Marktredwitz and Schirnding to Cheb in the Czech Republic. The route is also known as the ''Right'' (bank of the) ''Pegnitz (river), Pegnitz line'' (german: rechte Pegnitzstrecke or the ''Pegnitz Valley Railway'' (''Pegnitztalbahn''). Weiden–Oberkotzau Railway
The Weiden–Oberkotzau railway is a two-track main line railway in Bavaria, Germany. It connects with the Regensburg–Weiden railway in Weiden in der Oberpfalz and runs via Marktredwitz station, Marktredwitz to Oberkotzau station, Oberkotzau, where it joins the Bamberg–Hof railway. The line forms part of a long-distance route from Munich to Hof, Bavaria, Hof, continuing to Leipzig and Dresden. History The line was opened in several sections. Oscar Loew
Oscar Loew (2 April 1844 – 26 January 1941) was a German agricultural chemist, active in Germany, the United States, and Japan in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Biography Loew was born in Marktredwitz, Bavaria, where his father was a pharmacist. He studied at the University of Munich under the noted chemist Justus von Liebig; he was Liebig's last student. Loew was an assistant in plant physiology at the City College of New York and participated in four expeditions to the southwestern United States in 1882 before returning to Munich, Germany, where he collaborated with Carl Nägeli. Loew became associate professor at Munich University in 1886. In 1893, he was recruited by the Meiji government of Japan as a foreign advisor, and travelled to Tokyo, where he remained until 1898. Wunsiedel (german: Landkreis Wunsiedel i. Fichtelgebirge) is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the northeastern part of Bavaria, Germany. Neighbouring districts are (from the south clockwise) Tirschenreuth, Bayreuth, Hof, and to the east the Czech Karlovy Vary Region. Reinhard Scheer
Carl Friedrich Heinrich Reinhard Scheer (30 September 1863 – 26 November 1928) was an Admiral in the Imperial German Navy (''Kaiserliche Marine''). Scheer joined the navy in 1879 as an officer cadet and progressed through the ranks, commanding cruisers and battleships, as well as senior staff positions on land. At the outbreak of World War I, Scheer was the commander of the II Battle Squadron of the High Seas Fleet. He then took command of the III Battle Squadron, which consisted of the newest and most powerful battleships in the navy. In January 1916, he was promoted to Admiral and given control of the High Seas Fleet. Scheer led the German fleet at the Battle of Jutland on 31 May – 1 June 1916, one of the largest naval battles in history. Ersen Martin (born 23 May 1979) is a Turkish former professional footballer who played as a forward. Karl Ritter (diplomat)
Karl Ritter (5 June 1883, Dörflas, Marktredwitz – 31 July 1968, Murnau am Staffelsee) was a German diplomat during the Third Reich and was convicted as a war criminal in the Ministries Trial. A member of the Nazi Party, he was ambassador to Brazil for two years, Special Envoy to the Munich Agreement, and a senior official in the Foreign Office during World War II. Career Ritter graduated with a degree in law in 1905. In 1907 he was appointed to the Bavarian Civil Service. Birgit Lodes (born 30 April 1967) is a German musicologist and lecturer at the University of Vienna. Career Born in Marktredwitz, Lodes grew up in Bayreuth. Reinhard Pöllath (born January 15, 1948) is a German businessman and lawyer. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Beiersdorf. Early life and education Reinhard Pöllath was born in 1948.
