Markopoulo Mesogaias () is a town and a municipality in East Attica, Greece. The municipality has an area of . Geography The municipality Markopoulo Mesogaias is situated in the Mesogaia plain, in the eastern part of the Attica peninsula, and touches the Aegean Sea coast in the east, where the port town Porto Rafti is located. The town Markopoulo is in the western part of the municipality, at about elevation. It is north of Kalyvia Thorikou, east of Koropi and southeast of Athens city centre. Greek National Road 89 (Gerakas - Koropi - Lavrio - Sounio) passes through Markopoulo. Athens International Airport is north of the town. Markopoulo had a railway station on the Athens–Lavrion Railway, which closed for passenger traffic in 1957. Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre
The Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre hosted the Equestrian at the 2004 Summer Olympics, equestrian events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The venue is located at Markopoulo Mesogaias, Markópoulo on the outskirts of the Athens suburbs. It was completed in December 2003 and officially opened on 12 August 2004, shortly before the beginning of the competition. The Seating capacity, capacity of the venue is 10,000 for the Jumping Event, 8,100 seats for the Dressage and 15,000 seats for the Cross-Country Event. Petalioi Gulf
The Petalioi Gulf ( - ''Kolpos Petalion'') is a gulf of the Aegean Sea, Greece. It stretches between the east coast of Attica and the south tip of the island Euboea. It takes its name from the Petalioi islands, that are situated in the northeastern part of the Gulf, off the Euboean coast. The Petalioi Gulf is connected to the South Euboean Gulf to the north. Its length is approximately 50 km long from north to south and its width is approximately 5 km in the north to about 50 km in the south. Artemida (, until 1977 ''Loutsa'', ) is an Eastern suburb of Athens. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Spata-Artemida, of which it is a municipal unit. Spata () is a town east of downtown Athens, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Spata-Artemida, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. Markopoulo Athletic Club
AO Markopoulo () is a multi-sport club based in Markopoulo Mesogeas, in Attica, with their most successful department being the Woman's volley team which participates in the A1 Ethniki. Description Its official year of foundation is 1988 and it competes in dark blue, red and white. The club has sections of volleyball, ju jitsu, gymnastics (gymnastics and acrobatics) and chess. Until 2015, A.O.M. had a basketball department at the club before it was ceded to O.KA.M. (Mesogeia Basketball Club). The headquarters of A.O.
