Markino Buckley
Markino Buckley (born 16 April 1986) is a Jamaican track and field athlete who specialises in the 400 metres hurdles. He is part of the MVP Track & Field Club, which also has sprinters Asafa Powell and Nesta Carter as members. Career He started his career in international athletics with an appearance at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics. He set a personal best of 52.03 seconds in the 400 m hurdles heats, but was eliminated in the semi-finals. He took third place at the 2007 Jamaican National Championships, running a season's best of 49.24 s behind Danny McFarlane and Isa Phillips. This earned him the third spot on the Jamaican team at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics, but he did not managed to finish in his first race in Osaka, bringing an abrupt end to his senior global debut. Isa Phillips
Isa Phillips (born 22 April 1984) is a Jamaican hurdling athlete who specialises in the 400 metres hurdles. The Kingston native made his international debut at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Athletics, finishing sixth in the 400 m hurdles semi-finals. He won the national under-18s championship in the event in 2001. Phillips took to the senior circuit in 2003 and broke the 50-second-barrier in 2005, setting a personal best of 49.96 seconds in Arlington, Texas. His first major competition was the 2007 World Championships in Athletics where he finished fourth in the heats. The following year he represented Jamaica at the 2008 Summer Olympics and reached the semi-finals of the 400 m hurdles. The 30th CARIFTA Games was held in Bridgetown, Barbados, on April 14–16, 2001. An appraisal of the results has been given on the occasion of 40th anniversary of the games, and on the IAAF website. JAAA
The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) is the national governing body for the sport of athletics (including track and field, long-distance running and racewalking) in Jamaica. The association is based in Kingston. As of December 2020, the president of the association is Garth Gayle, JP. He succeeded Dr. Warren Blake who was elected interim president in November 2011 after the sudden death of Blake's predecessor Howard Aris, and re-elected in November 2012. The objects of the association are to promote, develop and regulate amateur athletics in Jamaica. The 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics () were held in Berlin, Germany from 15–23 August 2009. 2008 IAAF World Athletics Final
The 6th IAAF World Athletics Final was held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart, Germany on September 13 and September 14, 2008. A number of road races also took place on the second day of competition. There were seven different starting points around the Stuttgart area and the distances varied from 21 to 30 kilometres, with every race finishing in the Arena. Runners could join mid-race at specified times to allow for shorter distances and the aim was to have the runners finishing at a similar time. The road race ceremony was inspired by a similar event during the 1993 World Championships in Athletics, which was also held in the city.
