Markens Gate
Markens gate (English name: Markens street) is the main pedestrian street in Kristiansand, Norway. It is located in the west of the borough Kvadraturen and the length of the entire street is 1 kilometer, while the pedestrian part is 550 meters and another 160 meters with Otterdalsparken. The streets goes from Slottet Mall in the north and is a pedestrian street all the way down to Dronningens gate (Dronningens street), it's only crossed by traffic from Tordenskjolds gate, Kristian IVs gate and Henrik Wergelands gate before Dronningens gate. The pedestrian parts stretches over 7 quarters. Compared to other Norwegian cities, Markens street is one of the most walked streets in the country. Kvadraturen (Kristiansand)
Kvadraturen is a List of boroughs of Kristiansand, borough in the city centre of the Kristiansand (town), city of Kristiansand which lies in the municipality of Kristiansand in Agder county, Norway. It has a population of 6,750 (2015). The borough is made up of the centre together with the harbour to the south and the more rural district of "Eg (Kristiansand), Eg" to the north. Kvadraturen is the administrative centre of the municipality of Kristiansand as well as the administrative centre of Vest-Agder County Municipality, Vest-Agder county, but is far smaller in area than the other boroughs in the municipality, such as the borough of Grim (Kristiansand), Grim to the north and west, and the borough of Lund (Kristiansand), Lund to the east. Kristiansand Cathedral
Kristiansand Cathedral ( no, Kristiansand domkirke) is a cathedral of the Church of Norway in Kristiansand Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the Kvadraturen area in the central part of the city of Kristiansand. It is the church for the Kristiansand domkirken parish which is the seat of the Kristiansand domprosti (arch- deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The cathedral is also the seat of the Bishop of Agder and Telemark. The gray, brick church was built in a Neo-Gothic cruciform design in 1885 using plans drawn up by the architect Henrik Thrap-Meyer. Gustav Vigeland
Gustav Vigeland (11 April 1869 – 12 March 1943), born as Adolf Gustav Thorsen, was a Norwegian sculptor. Gustav Vigeland occupies a special position among Norwegian sculptors, both in the power of his creative imagination and in his productivity. He is most associated with the Vigeland installation (''Vigelandsanlegget'') in Frogner Park, Oslo. He was also the designer of the Nobel Peace Prize medal. Early life Adolf Gustav Thorsen was born to a family of craftsmen, just outside Halse og Harkmark, a former municipality in Mandal. His parents were Elesæus Thorsen (1835–1886), a cabinetmaker and Anne Aanensdatter (1835–1907). He had three brothers, of whom Emanuel Vigeland (originally Thorsen) became a noted artist. Kjell Nupen
Kjell Nupen (September 5, 1955 – March 12, 2014) was a Norwegian contemporary artist. He was a painter, sculptor and graphic artist. Early years Kjell Nupen had his professional breakthrough very early. At just 17 years old, he was admitted to Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts. Since he was believed to be 18, his admission caused some difficulties but he finally could start after being given an exemption. He experienced success early on, and at the age of just 19, his art was bought by the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design (''Riksgalleriet''),''Nasjonalgalleriet'' and ''Norsk Kulturråd''. Vestre Strandgate (Western Beach-street) is a street and a road in Kristiansand, Norway. The road is a part of National Road 471 and starts after Riksvei 9 ends in Kvadraturen. Vestre Strandgate is a dual path and pavement on both sides of the road. It is one of the busiest roads in the city center of Kristiansand and constantly has traffic during the day and long out over the nights in the weekend.
