Markaz Rif Dimashq
Markaz Rif Dimashq District ( ar-at, منطقة مركز ريف دمشق, manṭiqat Markaz Rif Dimašq) or Damascus Central Countryside District is a district of the Rif Dimashq Governorate in southern Syria. Geography Markaz Rif Dimashq is located south of the Damascus Governorate covering the southeastern outskirts of metropolitan Damascus. With most administrative buildings being located in Damascus, the district has no official administrative centre. With a population of 136,427 inhabitants, the town of Sayyidah Zaynab however is the largest city of the district. The district was split in 2009, when the sub-district Qudsaya Qudsaya ( ar, قدسيا, Qudsayā) is a Syrian city in Rif Dimashq Governorate and the administrative centre of Qudsaya District. Districts Of Syria
The 14 governorates of Syria, or ''muhafazat'' (sing. ''muhafazah''), are divided into 65 districts, or ''manatiq'' (sing. ''mintaqah''), including the city of Damascus. The districts are further divided into 281 subdistricts, or ''nawahi'' (sing. ''nahiya''). Each district bears the same name as its district capital. Jaramana
Jaramana ( ar, جرمانا) is a city in southern Syria, administratively part of the Rif Dimashq Governorate in the Ghouta plain. Its location, 3 kilometers southeast of the Syrian capital, makes it a bustling town in the greater Damascus metropolitan area, with a mostly Christian and Druze population. It is adjacent to the Jaramana Camp, a Palestinian refugee camp. History Jaramana was visited by Syrian geographer Yaqut al-Hamawi in the early 13th-century and noted it was "a district of the Ghautah of Damascus." Al-Kiswah
Al-Kiswah ( ar, الكسوة ' also spelled Kissoué/Kiswe) is a city in the Rif Dimashq Governorate, Syria. It is located approximately south of Damascus. It was the location of the 1303 Battle of Marj al-Saffar, and the childhood home of Adnan Awad. Administratively, Al-Kiswah belongs to Markaz Rif Dimashq district. It is one of the largest towns of the district by terms of population. History The name "al-Kiswah" means “the garment”. According to a tradition related by Yaqut al-Hamawi, this is because the king of Rum sent some messengers to demand tribute from a figure named King Ghassan; he had the messengers killed and then, at the site of al-Kiswah, he had their garments divided up. Yaqut and Ibn Battuta both described al-Kiswah as the first stage on the hajj route out of Damascus. Qudsaya District ( ar-at, منطقة قدسيا, mantiqah, manṭiqat Qudsaya) is a Districts of Syria, district of the Rif Dimashq Governorate in southern Syria. Qudsaya District is located to the northwest of the Damascus Governorate and Mount Qasioun, covering the northwestern outskirts of metropolitan Damascus. The administrative centre is the town of Qudsaya. Until 2009, Qudsaya was a sub-district within Markaz Rif Dimashq District.
