Mark Trail Wilderness
The Mark Trail Wilderness was designated in 1991 and currently consists of . It is named in honor of Mark Trail, a daily newspaper comic strip created by the American cartoonist Ed Dodd. The Wilderness is located within the borders of the Chattahoochee National Forest in White, Towns, and Union counties, Georgia. The Wilderness is managed by the United States Forest Service and is part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. The highest elevation in the Mark Trail Wilderness is the peak of Horsetrough Mountain. Fourteen miles (21 km) of the Appalachian Trail cross the Wilderness. The Wilderness features other peaks and Horsetrough Falls on the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River. Horsetrough Falls
Horsetrough Falls, 300 feet below Chattahoochee Gap on Coon's Den Ridge, are located on one of the flanks of Horsetrough Mountain in Union County, Georgia, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This waterfall is located on a creek that is part of the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River, which forms within a mile of the falls, and located within the Mark Trail Wilderness. There is an observation platform at the falls which can be reached by the Horsetrough Falls Trail. The trail begins at the nearby Upper Chattahoochee Campground camping area, which is maintained and operated by the Chattooga Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The Eastern Continental Divide follows the main ridge line of Horsetrough Mountain and the water passes over Horsetrough Falls to begin a journey to the Gulf of Mexico via the Chattahoochee River. Horsetrough Mountain
Horsetrough Mountain, with a summit elevation of , is located in Union and White counties in northeastern Georgia, USA. It is also within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forest and is part of the Mark Trail Wilderness. The Eastern Continental Divide follows the main ridge line that makes up the mountain, crossing the peak. Water to the south and east of the mountain flows to the Atlantic Ocean, while water to the north and west of the mountain flows to the Gulf of Mexico. Streams from Horsetrough Mountain form some of the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River, and the West Fork Little River. The Appalachian Trail follows the main ridge line of the mountain but does not cross the summit. State Route 75 (Georgia)
State Route 75 (SR 75) is a state highway that travels south-to-north through portions of White and Towns counties in the northern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It connects Cleveland and the North Carolina state line, via Helen, Macedonia, and Hiawassee. Route description SR 75 begins at an intersection with US 129/ SR 11 (North Main Street) in Cleveland in White County. This intersection also marks the southern terminus of SR 75 Alternate, which runs concurrent with US 129/SR 11 to the northwest.
