Mark Stoops (politician)
Mark Stoops is a former Democratic member of the Indiana Senate who represented the 40th District from 2012 to 2020. He decided not to run for re-election to a third term. He was succeeded by fellow Democrat Shelli Yoder. Before being elected to the Indiana Senate, Stoops served as a Monroe County Commissioner. Stoops served on the commission from 1999 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2012, becoming a well-known opponent of Interstate 69. Vi Simpson
Vi Simpson (born March 18, 1946) is an American politician who is a former Democratic member of the Indiana Senate, representing the 40th District from 1984 to 2012. She was the Minority Leader of the Indiana Senate. She was also the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, in the 2012 Indiana Gubernatorial Election, running with the former Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives John R. Gregg. The Gregg/Simpson ticket lost in a narrow election to Mike Pence and Sue Ellspermann. Political career Simpson was first elected to the office of Monroe County Auditor in 1981. Shelli Yoder
Shelli Renee Yoder (born August 30, 1968) is an American politician serving in the Indiana Senate for Monroe County, Indiana from Senate District 40. A former Miss Indiana and a Miss America 1993 contestant, Yoder has held positions at a number of nonprofit organizations. She was the Democratic nominee for the United States House of Representatives in Indiana's 9th congressional district in 2012 and 2016. However, she was defeated both times by Republicans: first by Todd Young and then by Trey Hollingsworth. In June 2020, she won the Democratic primary for Indiana state senate district 40. Interstate 69 In Indiana
Interstate 69 (I-69) currently has two discontinuous segments of freeway in the US state of Indiana. The original highway, completed in November 1971, runs northeasterly from the state capital of Indianapolis, to the city of Fort Wayne, and then proceeds north to the state of Michigan (reaching its capital city, Lansing and beyond). This original segment is also known as segment of independent utility 1 (SIU 1) in the national plan for expansion of I-69.
