Mark Shelton (Australian Politician)
Mark David Shelton (born 20 February 1959) is an Australian politician who is the current Speaker of the Tasmanian House of Assembly since June 2021, and previously served in the role from 2017 to 2018 He was previously the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management and Minister for Local Government in the Hodgman Liberal Government, and is a member for Lyons. Shelton was Mayor of Meander Valley from 2003. In 2010, he was endorsed as a Liberal candidate for Lyons at the state election of that year. Jane Howlett
Jane Howlett is an Australian politician, who has been a Liberal member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council for the division of Prosser since 2018. After Peter Gutwein became Premier in January 2020, Howlett was promoted to his cabinet as Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Racing. After the 2021 Tasmanian state election in May 2021, she was additionally appointed Minister for Small Business and Minister for Women in the Second Gutwein Ministry. A reshuffle of the cabinet on 17 February 2022 resulted in Howlett also becoming Minister for Disability Services, Minister for Hospitality and Events, but losing the sports portfolio to Nic Street. However, a week later on 25 February, Howlett resigned from the cabinet, citing "personal reasons after the death of her brother", who died the day the Second Gutwein Ministry was sworn in. 2010 Tasmanian State Election
The 2010 Tasmanian state election was held on 20 March 2010 to elect members to the Tasmanian House of Assembly. The 12-year incumbent Labor government, led by Premier of Tasmania David Bartlett, won a fourth consecutive term against the Liberal opposition, led by Will Hodgman, after Labor formed a minority government with the support of the Greens. The election was conducted by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission, an independent body answerable to Parliament. As in past Tasmanian state elections, the proportional Hare-Clark system was used to allocate the 25 seats in the House. The commission announced that there were 357,315 enrolled electors at the close of rolls. A total of 89 candidates nominated for election. Meander Valley Council is a local government body in northern Tasmania. It covers the western outskirts of Launceston, and further westward along the Meander River. Meander Valley Council is classified as a rural local government area and has a population of 19,713. The House of Assembly, or Lower House, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. The other is the Legislative Council or Upper House. It sits in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. The Assembly has 25 members, elected for a term of up to four years, with five members being elected in each of five electorates, called divisions. Each division has approximately the same number of electors. Voting for the House of Assembly is by a form of proportional representation using the single transferable vote (STV), known as the Hare-Clark electoral system.
