Mark Robinson (safety)
Mark Leon Robinson (born September 13, 1962) is a former professional American football player. He was a 1982 consensus All-American Safety (American football position), safety at Penn State University. He played nine seasons as a safety in the National Football League (NFL), for the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was selected by the Chiefs in the fourth round of the 1984 NFL Draft. Robinson is currently the color analyst for radio broadcasts of University of South Florida Bulls football games. He also co-hosts a Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan show called "Xtra Point" on Spectrum Sports (Florida), Spectrum Sports Florida. 1984 NFL Draft
The 1984 NFL Draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held May 1–2, 1984, at the Omni Park Central Hotel in New York City, New York. No teams elected to claim any players in the regular supplemental draft that year. The NFL did have a special supplemental draft for college seniors who had already signed with the USFL or CFL on June 5, 1984. The 1984 draft was the first in ten years in which a quarterback was not selected in the first round; the first quarterback selected in 1984 was Boomer Esiason, who was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round, with the 38th overall pick. Spectrum Sports (formerly known as ''Bright House Sports Network'') was an American regional sports network serving the Tampa Bay and Orlando metropolitan areas of Florida, that was owned by cable television provider Charter Communications which exclusively carried the channel on Standard Definition channel 47 and High Definition channel 1147. History The channel was originally established in the Tampa Bay area in 2004, as Catch 47 (named after its cable channel slot). Safety (American Football Position)
Safety is a position in gridiron football on the defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. While American (11-player) formations generally use two safeties, Canadian (12-player) formations generally have one safety and two defensive halfbacks, a position not used in the American game.
