Mark Powell (footballer)
Mark Powell (born 15 March 1984) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. He lived in Narrandera and played for his junior club Narrandera Eagles until he was 15 and then he moved to Albury where he played for Lavington FC to further his AFL ambitions. He was selected at no 28 in the 2nd round of the 2001 National Draft to the Sydney Swans, and was touted as a key position defender. In 2002 he played no senior games, in 2003 he played 5 senior games, 3 senior games in 2004, and none in 2005. Following the end of the 2005 season he was traded to the Kangaroos. The Murray Bushrangers is an Australian rules football team playing in Victorian statewide under-18s competition, presently known as the NAB League, since 1993 based in Wangaratta. The team trains on Norm Minns Oval. The team is coached by Mark Brown. Guernsey colours are Black, Purple and Yellow, with black socks and black (home) or white (away) shorts. The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. 2001 AFL Draft
The 2001 AFL draft consisted of a state draft, a body draft, a pre-season draft and a trade period. The AFL draft is the annual draft of players by Australian rules football teams that participate in the main competition of that sport, the Australian Football League (AFL). In 2001 there were 83 picks to be drafted between 16 teams in the national draft. The Fremantle Dockers originally received the first pick in the national draft after finishing on the bottom of the ladder in the 2001 AFL season but they traded it to Hawthorn for Trent Croad.
