Mark O'Keefe (born July 10, 1952) is an American soldier and politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Early life and career Mark David O'Keefe was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania. In 1970, he graduated from Bishop Egan High School in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. O'Keefe served in the United States Army as a paratrooper from 1971 to 1973. In 1977, he received his bachelor's degree in environmental studies from California State University, Sacramento and his master's degree in environmental studies from University of Montana in 1984. O'Keefe worked for the Montana Department of Natural Resources. O'Keefe married Lucy Bliss Dayton, daughter of Bruce Dayton and great-granddaughter of George Dayton on September 24, 1983. O'Keefe lives with his wife and family in Helena, Montana. He was also a consultant concerning natural resources and politician campaigns. The Montana State Auditor is a constitutional officer in the executive branch of government of the U.S. state of Montana. The State Auditor is elected once every four years, concurrent with the state's gubernatorial election and the U.S. presidential election. The incumbent is Troy Downing, who was first elected in November 2020 and took office in January 2021. Brian David Schweitzer (born September 4, 1955) is an American farmer and politician who served as the 23rd Governor of Montana from 2005 to 2013. Schweitzer served for a time as chair of the Western Governors Association as well as the Democratic Governors Association. He also served as President of the Council of State Governments. The 2000 Montana gubernatorial election took place on November 7, 2000. Incumbent Governor of Montana Marc Racicot, who was first elected in 1992 and was re-elected in 1996, was unable to seek re-election due to term limits. Judy Martz, the Lieutenant Governor of Montana under Racicot for four years, won the Republican primary and advanced to the general election, where she faced Mark O'Keefe, the Montana State Auditor and Democratic nominee. Despite the fact that George W. Bush, the Republican nominee for president in 2000, won the state in a landslide, the race between Martz and O'Keefe was close. However, Martz managed to narrowly defeat him to win her first and only term as governor. Judy Jacobson (February 26, 1939 – June 20, 2019) was an American author and politician who served as a Democratic member of the Montana Legislature. She was elected to Montana State Senate District 42 and served from 1981 to 1996, and was the first female Senator serving Silver Bow County.
