Mark Kelley (bassist)
Mark Kelley is an American bass guitar player and member of the hip hop band The Roots, joining the band in 2011. Kelley plays with The Roots in the house band for ''The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon''. He occasionally appears in games and sketches on ''The Tonight Show''. Kelley has toured with Meshell Ndegeocello, John Scofield, Mos Def, Christian McBride, Jason Moran, and Roy Hargrove. Early life Mark Kelley was born in Houston, Texas. His father was a classical pianist and his mother was a physician. He played cello and guitar, before taking up the bass at age 13. He attended Houston's Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Education Kelley attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Jason Moran (musician)
Jason Moran (born January 21, 1975) is an American jazz pianist, composer, and educator involved in multimedia art and theatrical installations. Moran recorded first with Greg Osby and debuted as a band leader with the 1999 album ''Soundtrack to Human Motion''. Since then, he has released albums with his trio The Bandwagon, solo, as a sideman, and with other bands. He combines post-bop and avant-garde jazz, blues, classical music, stride piano, and hip hop. Roots Picnic
The Roots Picnic is an annual music festival created and hosted by hip hop group, The Roots. Co-founder, Shawn Gee, and manager of The Roots serves as executive producer of the festival. The festival is held in Philadelphia, their hometown at the Mann at Fairmount Park. The first festival was held on June 7, 2008. The festival is a one-day event but for one year it was expanded for two-days in 2012. It was expanded again in 2022. Another festival was held outside of Philadelphia in 2016. Michael McDonald (born February 12, 1952) is an American singer, keyboardist and songwriter known for his distinctive, soulful voice and as a member of the bands the Doobie Brothers (1975–1982, 1987, 2019–present) and Steely Dan (1973–1974). From May 2 to September 27, 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA)—representing 11,500 screenwriters—went on strike over a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). With a duration of 148 days, the strike is tied with the 1960 strike as the second longest labor stoppage that the WGA has performed, only behind the 1988 strike (153 days). Alongside the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which continued until November, it was part of a series of broader Hollywood labor disputes. Located today on 427 Massachusetts Avenue, Wally’s Cafe originally opened across the street on January 1st 1947 by Joseph L Walcott. Formerly Wally’s Paradise, the institution is recognized as one of Boston’s oldest and longest operating Jazz clubs. Through the 50's, Wally’s stage offered a home to a reliable core of local Jazz musicians including the likes of Fat Man Robinson, Bunny Campbell, Art Foxall, Herbie and Roland Lee, Joe Perry, Stanley Trotman, Sabby Lewis, and Mabel Robinson.
