Mark Hill (born 1975) is a British antiques expert, TV presenter, author and publisher. Early life and education Educated at Cranmore Preparatory School in West Horsley and the Royal Grammar School, Guildford, he studied History of Art & Architecture at the University of Reading. Career In 1996, he joined Bonhams as a porter, and then became a Junior Cataloguer in their Collectors Department. He moved on to join Sotheby's in London as a Specialist in their Collectors Department. In 2001, he joined Internet company icollector.com, rising to become Director of Auction House Services. He has contributed to ''DK Collectables Price Guide'' (by Judith Miller) and was the co-author of the annual ''Miller's Collectables Price Guide'' from 2009 to 2017. West Horsley
West Horsley is a semi-rural village between Guildford and Leatherhead in Surrey, England. It lies on the A246, and south of the M25 and the A3. Its civil parish ascends to an ancient woodland Sheepleas Woods which are on the northern downslopes of the ridge of hills known as the North Downs in the extreme south of the village, and cover about a tenth of its area, 255 acres (1 km²). The bulk of West Horsley's land is north of the Surrey Hills AONB, the rest is within it. History West Horsley appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Orselei'' held by Walter, son of Othere. ''Antiques Roadshow'' is a British television programme broadcast by the BBC in which antiques appraisers travel to various regions of the United Kingdom (and occasionally in other countries) to appraise antiques brought in by local people (generally speaking). It has been running since 1979, based on a 1977 documentary programme. The series has spawned many international versions throughout Europe, North America and other countries with the same TV format. Sam Herman
Sam Herman was contemporary glass artist, sculptor and painter. One of Harvey Littleton's first students, Herman is credited as one of the founders of the Studio Glass movement in Great Britain. He was seminal in spreading the idea of the movement through his teaching positions in England, (at the Royal College of Art and the Buckinghamshire College of Higher Education), and Australia (at the Jam Factory Workshops in Adelaide) and through the exhibition of his own sculpture in glass. Through the years the artist has resided and established his personal studio in London, England (1979–90), South Australia (1974–79). The Freedom of the City of London started around 1237 as the status of a 'free man' or 'citizen', protected by the charter of the City of London and not under the jurisdiction of a feudal lord. In the Middle Ages, this developed into a freedom or right to trade, becoming closely linked to the medieval guilds, the livery companies. In 1835 eligibility for the freedom of the City was extended to anyone who lived in, worked in or had a strong connection to the City. The freedom that citizens enjoy has long associations with privileges in the governance of the City.
