Mark Gardener
Mark Stephen Gardener (born 6 December 1969, in Oxford, England) is an English rock musician, and a singer and guitarist with the shoegazing band Ride. Ride Gardener formed Ride with Andy Bell (guitar), whom he met at Cheney School in Oxford, and Laurence Colbert (drummer) and Steve Queralt (bass guitarist), whom he met doing Foundation Studies in Art and Design at Banbury in 1988. While still at Banbury the band produced a tape demo including the tracks "Chelsea Girl" and "Drive Blind". In February 1989 "Ride" were asked to stand in for a cancelled student union gig at Oxford Polytechnic that brought them to the attention of Alan McGee. After supporting The Soup Dragons in 1989, McGee signed them to Creation Records. With Ride, Gardener released three EPs between January and September 1990, entitled ''Ride'', ''Play'' and ''Fall''. While the EPs had only limited chart success, enough critical praise was received to make Ride the "darlings" of the UK music press. The first ...

Deletion (music Industry)
Deletion is a music industry term referring to the removal of a record or records from a label's official catalog, so that it is out of print, but usually at a record artist's request. Process Deletion can be for a variety of reasons, but usually reflects a decline in sales so that distributing the record is no longer profitable. Singles are routinely deleted after a period of weeks, but an album by a major artist may remain in the catalog indefinitely. When titles are deleted in the US, the remaining stock would be defaced with a cut-out through the sleeve or case. Cut-out records formed a grey market outside the major distribution channels. In the 1993 book ''Stiffed: A True Story of MCA, the Music Business, and the Mafia'' Bill Knoedelseder wrote of how MCA Records became the subject of a federal investigation of its cut-out sales practices after a deal allegedly involving organized crime. Effects Deletion in the music industry differs from print publishing in that recording c ...

Nowhere (album)
''Nowhere'' is the debut album by British shoegaze band Ride, released 15 October 1990. ''Rolling Stone'' called the album "a masterpiece", and online magazine ''Pitchfork'' called it "one of shoegazing's enduring moments". Waterman had a mental breakdown, which resulted in Alan Moulder mixing the recordings. The band members were 18 or 19 during the recording of ''Nowhere''. Mark Gardener described it as a "nighttime sort of record", and recalled the band working on the album in the studio during late-night hours, leading to feelings of isolation as a result of the irregular work schedule. Artwork The album cover features an uncrested wave photographed by skateboard/snowboard photographer Warren Bolster. The original LP cover artwork had the band name in embossed text centered i ...

Music Journalism
Music journalism (or music criticism) is media criticism and reporting about music topics, including popular music, classical music, and traditional music. Journalists began writing about music in the eighteenth century, providing commentary on what is now regarded as classical music. In the 1960s, music journalism began more prominently covering popular music like rock and pop after the breakthrough of The Beatles. With the rise of the internet in the 2000s, music criticism developed an increasingly large online presence with music bloggers, aspiring music critics, and established critics supplementing print media online. Music journalism today includes reviews of songs, albums and live concerts, profiles of recording artists, and reporting of artist news and music events. Origins in classical music criticism Music journalism has its roots in classical music criticism, which has traditionally comprised the study, discussion, evaluation, and interpretation of music that has be ...
