Marjorie Brown
Marjorie Dennison Hall Brown (born April 20, 1911, died November 23, 2000 in Sarasota, Florida) was the owner of the Boston Celtics following the death of her husband Walter A. Brown. After the death of Walter A. Brown, the Celtics' ownership was split 50/50 between minority owner Louis Pieri and Brown's widow Marjorie Brown. Sarasota () is a city in Sarasota County on the Gulf Coast of the U.S. state of Florida. The area is renowned for its cultural and environmental amenities, beaches, resorts, and the Sarasota School of Architecture. Louis Pieri
Louis Arthur Raymond Pieri (February 23, 1897 – June 16, 1967) was an American basketball and ice hockey executive and coach. Ice hockey In 1929 he was named general manager of the Providence Reds. The team became a charter member of the American Hockey League in 1936. Under his leadership, the Reds won eight AHL division titles and four Calder Cup championships (1938, 1940, 1949, 1956). The American Hockey League presents the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award annually to its outstanding coach. Pieri was inducted into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018. Basketball During the 1918–19 season, Pieri was the head coach of the Brown Bears men's basketball team. ''The Miami News'' was an evening newspaper in Miami, Florida. It was the media market competitor to the morning edition of the ''Miami Herald'' for most of the 20th century. The paper started publishing in May 1896 as a weekly called ''The Miami Metropolis''. The ''Metropolis'' had become a daily (except Sunday) paper of eight pages by 1903. On June 4, 1923, former Ohio governor James M. Cox bought the ''Metropolis'' and renamed it the ''Miami Daily News-Metropolis''. On January 4, 1925 the newspaper became the ''Miami Daily News'', and published its first Sunday edition. Cox had a new building erected for the newspaper, and the Miami News Tower was dedicated on July 25, 1925. This building later became famous as the Freedom Tower. Marvin Kratter (born November 9, 1915, in Brooklyn, died October 24, 1999, in Encinitas, California) was a New York-based real estate developer who was the head of the Kratter Corporation, National Equities, Countrywide Realty, Knickerbocker Brewery, Rom-American Pharmaceuticals, and the Boston Celtics. Biography Born to a Jewish family, Kratter graduated from Brooklyn College (1937) and Brooklyn Law School (1939). Kratter started his career as a certified public accountant in New York City. He moved to Tucson, Arizona in the 1930s and he started a dude ranch, Rancho del Rio Estates, in 1945. Kratter's ranch went bankrupt in 1949 and he moved back to New York City, where he became one of the first to practice real estate syndication. In 1956, Kratter bought Ebbets Field from Brooklyn Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley. He leased Ebbets Field back to O'Malley until the team left for Los Angeles after the 1957 season.
