Santiago Mariño Carige Fitzgerald (25 July 1788 in Valle Espíritu Santo, Margarita – 4 September 1854 in La Victoria, Aragua), was a nineteenth-century Venezuelan revolutionary leader and hero in the Venezuelan War of Independence (1811–1823). He became an important leader of eastern Venezuela and for a short while in 1835 seized power over the new state of Venezuela. Family His father was the captain of the "Santiago Mariño de Acuña" militias and "Lieutenant Greater Justice of the Gulf of Paria". Diego Mariño Villar (born 9 May 1990) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for UD Almería as a goalkeeper. Formed at Villarreal, he spent most of his career in the Segunda División with that club's first and second teams as well at Sporting de Gijón, making 289 appearances. Francisco Mariño y Soler (9 October 1780; 31 August 1876) was a soldier, politician, and aristocrat. He was a patriot and Knight of the Order of Santiago. Juan Carlos Mariño Márquez (born 2 January 1982 in Lima) is a former Peruvian footballer who played primarily as an attacking midfielder. He is currently head coach of Deportivo Llacuabamba's reserve team. International career He has made 22 appearances for the Peru national football team. Pedro Mariño De Lobera
Pedro Mariño de Lobera (1528–1594) was a Galician soldier, conquistador and chronicler of the Arauco War in the Captaincy General of Chile. Biography A professional soldier who served in the war between Spain and France, he went to the Americas in 1545. Mariño joined the forces of Pedro de La Gasca in Havana, Cuba, when he received the order of King Carlos V to end the revolt of Gonzalo Pizarro in Peru. He was then transferred to Lima where he remained until his trip to Chile, in 1551. In Chile he participated actively next to Pedro de Valdivia and Francisco de Villagra in the first campaigns made to the South, as an outstanding soldier. Also, he was present in the campaigns of the governors García Hurtado de Mendoza and Rodrigo de Quiroga. Later, in payment of his services, an encomienda in the city of Valdivia was granted to him. María Mariño Carou (1907-1967) was a Galician writer. She was born on 8 June 1907 in a house on Rúa Cega in Noia, A Coruña province. She was the daughter of Xosé Mariño Pais, a shoe maker. She was the fourth of five children. Her siblings were Concha (1898), Emilio (1901), Cándido (1902) and Asunción (1908). She had to leave school in order to work, because her father used to gamble in the taverns of Noia. Whilst Emilio found work as a mechanic and Cándido as a carpenter, María and her sisters helped out in domestic tasks. On 31 May 1939 Mariño Carou married Roberto Pose Carballido and also began to lie about her age. Francisco das Chagas Marinho (8 February 1952 – 31 May 2014), generally known as Marinho Chagas or Francisco Marinho, was a Brazilian professional footballer. One of the best left-backs of his era, he is best known for his flowing curly blond hair and his performance at the 1974 FIFA World Cup, in which Brazil finished fourth.
