Pecica (; ; ; /''Pečka'') is a town in Arad County, western Romania. Weightlifting (often known as Olympic weightlifting) is a competitive strength athletics, strength sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with the aim of successfully lifting the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead. The ''Snatch (weightlifting), snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the ''clean''), and then from the shoulders to over the head (the ''jerk''). European Weightlifting Championships is an annual event organised by the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF). It has been held since 1896. A separate event for women was held from 1988 to 1997, after which both championships have been held as one event. Traian Cihărean
Traian Ioachim Cihărean (born 13 July 1969) is a retired flyweight weightlifter from Romania. He competed at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1992, placing fifth-sixth on other occasions. Cihărean won the European title in 1991 and finished third at the 1989 World Championships. His younger brother Marius Cihărean, Marius is also a former Olympic weightlifter.
