Marion Union Station
Marion Union Station is a former passenger railroad station at 532 W. Center Street in Marion, Ohio, United States. As a union station it served several train lines: the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway or CCC & St. L. (acquired in 1906 by the New York Central Railroad), and Erie Railroad (and its successor Erie Lackawanna Railroad). These lines intersected at the station, so it was a significant transfer point between different geographic points. History It was built in 1902 (opening on July 31), it featured marble walls and patterned mosaic tiles on the floor. In 1923, it was the last stop on President Warren Harding's funeral train. It was a canteen stop for soldiers during World War II. Lake Cities (train)
The ''Lake Cities'' was a passenger train operated by the Erie Railroad and successor Erie Lackawanna Railway between Chicago and New Jersey termini — first, Jersey City and later Hoboken. The ''Lake Cities'' began in 1939 as the ''Midlander'', a Jersey City-Chicago service with sections to Cleveland, Ohio, and Buffalo, New York. From its eastern terminus, the Erie's Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City, the route ran through Port Jervis to Binghamton over the traditional Erie main line through Sullivan and Orange County in New York's Southern Tier and on to Chicago. Unlike other New York-Chicago trains, it bypassed Buffalo to the south, running through Jamestown, Youngstown, Akron and Marion. The ''George Washington'' was a named passenger train of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway running between Cincinnati, Ohio and Washington, D.C. A section divided from the main train at Gordonsville, Virginia and operated through Richmond to Phoebus, Virginia. From the west, a section originated in Louisville and joined at Ashland.
