Mario Perillo
Mario Perillo (August 15, 1926 – February 28, 2003) was an American businessman and Chairman of Perillo Tours, Inc. He expanded his father's business into the largest US operator of tours to Italy. He was perhaps best known to the public for his television commercials during the 1980s and 1990s, earning him the nickname "Mr. Italy". Perillo was born in 1926 and owned (but never resided in) the historic Achenbach House in Saddle River, New Jersey which was adjacent to his longtime residence on Apple Ridge Road. Achenbach House
The Achenbach House remains are located in Saddle River, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1757 by Johan George Achenbach and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 18, 1979. The house was the home of Larry Blyden and Carol Haney in the 1960s. It was owned (but never occupied) by travel pioneer Mario Perillo until his death in 2003, and subsequently passed on to a trust in his son Stephen Perillo's name, who is the present owner. It was largely destroyed by fire in 2004, though a portion of the original structure remains intact as a guest cottage. Steve Perillo (born September 29, 1955) is the president and owner of Perillo Tours, having taken over from his father, Mario Perillo, "Mr. Italy", and represents the 3rd generation of the 75-year-old family business. He is sometimes referred to as "Mr. Italy, Jr." as a reference to his father's famous nickname. Following in his father's footsteps of direct pitch TV ads for travel, his well known commercials have been parodied by Adam Sandler on ''Saturday Night Live''.
