Marino Fontana
Marino Fontana (14 March 1936 – 11 June 2013) was an Italian road cyclist. Professional from 1960 to 1966, he notably won the 1961 Giro di Toscana and finished third in the 1960 Giro di Lombardia. He also rode in seven races of the Giro d'Italia, with his best finish being 21st in 1963. After retiring, he worked as a directeur sportif for several teams. Caldogno
Caldogno is a town and ''comune'' near Vicenza in Italy. It has a population of 11,337 inhabitants. The Villa Caldogno Nordera in its territory is attributed to architect Andrea Palladio. Züri-Metzgete (Zürich German; en, Championship of Zürich; german: Meisterschaft von Zürich) was a European Classic cycle race held annually in Zürich, Switzerland, and continued as a non-professional mass participation event from 2007 until 2014. It was a race with a long history dating back to 1914, on a demanding course in the hilly region around Zürich. In its heyday the race was considered the ''sixth monument'' of cycling, alongside the five most prestigious one-day races on the calendar ( Milan–San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris–Roubaix, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Tour of Lombardy). It was the most prominent of the summer classics. Tour De Romandie
The Tour de Romandie is a stage race which is part of the UCI World Tour. It runs through the Romandie region, or French-speaking part of Switzerland. The competition began in 1947, to coincide with the 50-year anniversary of Swiss Cycling. It was held without interruption until the COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of the 2020 edition. The course of the race usually heads northwards towards the Jura mountains and Alpine mountain ranges of western Switzerland. The race traditionally starts with an individual time trial prologue and ends with an individual time-trial in hilly terrains, often in Lausanne. The final time-trial traditionally starts in the stadium north of Lausanne, goes downhill southwards to Lake Léman (Lake Geneva), and makes its way back uphill to the stadium again. Coppa Placci
The Coppa Placci is a semi classic European bicycle race held between Imola, Italy and San Marino. Since 2005, the race has been organised as a 1.HC event on the UCI Europe Tour. The race is named after Antonio Placci, a cyclist born in Imola who died in 1921, two years before the race was created. Because of sponsorship problems, in 2010 the race has been excluded from the UCI Europe Tour and was reserved to the Elite/Under 23 Category. In 2011 the race was held as Giro della Romagna - Coppa Placci and won by Oscar Gatto. A ''directeur sportif'' ( French for sporting director, although the original French term is often used in English-language media; plural ''directeurs sportifs'') is a person directing a cycling team during a road bicycle racing event. It is seen as the equivalent to a field manager in baseball, or a head coach in football. At professional level, a directeur sportif follows the team in a car and communicates with riders, personnel and race officials by radio. The directeur sportif warns of obstacles or challenging terrain, updates the team on the situation in the race, and provides mechanical help. The car carrying the directeur sportif also usually carries a bicycle mechanic with spare bikes, wheels and parts. It also carries spare water bottles, food and medical equipment.
