Kalymnos
Kalymnos ( el, Κάλυμνος) is a Greek island and municipality in the southeastern Aegean Sea. It belongs to the Dodecanese island chain, between the islands of Kos (south, at a distance of ) and Leros (north, at a distance of less than ): the latter is linked to it through a series of islets. Kalymnos lies between two and five hours away by sea from Rhodes. In 2011 the island had a population of 16,001, making it the third most populous island of the Dodecanese, after Kos and Rhodes. "Darla dirladada" is a song recorded by French singer Dalida, first released on single during summer of 1970. It was a #1 hit in France. The song is based on Greek folk song "Dirlada" (Greek: ), originating from the island of Kalymnos in Greece. Origins It was conceived as a song that sponge divers would sing when traveling with their ''caïque'' boats across the seas. The song's lyrics contain words of encouragement and the opportunity awaiting the crew. One of the most notable recordings is that performed by Pantelis Ginnis, a Kalymnian sponge diver captain, who, in his version, is making a reference to another respected diver captain, Manolis (Emmanuel) Theodosiou, whose nickname was 'Kobalis'. Pythagoras Papastamatiou ( el, Πυθαγόρας Παπασταματίου, 12 April 1930 – November 12, 1979), mainly known by the mononym Pythagoras, was a Greek lyricist and playwright. Biography He was born in 1930 in Agrinio where he lived until he became 18 years old. His family was descended from Samos. His parents met each other in Smyrna (now Izmir, Turkey), shortly before the Asia Minor Catastrophe. The Asia Minor Catastrophe influenced his work later in his life (in 1972, he co-wrote the song ''Mikra Asia'' (''Μικρά Ασία'' "Asia Minor") along with Apostolos Kaldaras). Giorgos Katsaros ( el, Γιώργος Κατσαρός) (born on 7 March 1934 in Corfu) is a famous Greek musician and songwriter. He plays the alto saxophone.
