Marina Strocchi
Marina Strocchi (born 28 December 1961) is an internationally-exhibited Australian painter and printmaker whose work is held in many national collections. Strocchi is based in Alice Springs and has worked extensively with Aboriginal artists in Central Australia. Early life Strocchi was born on 28 December 1961 to an Italian father and Australian mother in Melbourne and was interested in art from a young age. After finishing school, Strocchi studied a Bachelor of Art at Swinburne Technical College, where she completed a graphic design degree (1979–1982). In the years following she travelled extensively before choosing to move, for two years, to Paris. In 1987 she returned from an extended visit to Paris and Mexico following the death of her father. Alice Springs ( aer, Mparntwe) is the third-largest town in the Northern Territory of Australia. Known as Stuart until 31 August 1933, the name Alice Springs was given by surveyor William Whitfield Mills after Alice, Lady Todd (''née'' Alice Gillam Bell), wife of the telegraph pioneer Sir Charles Todd. Yuendumu is a town in the Northern Territory of Australia, northwest of Alice Springs on the Tanami Road, within the Central Desert Region local government area. It ranks as one of the larger remote communities in central Australia, and has a thriving community of Aboriginal artists. Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize
The Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, formerly the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, is a biennial competition for artists, with a science theme, organised by the South Australian Museum in Adelaide, South Australia. History The prize was established in 2002 and named after Frederick George Waterhouse, who was the first curator of the Museum. He discovered 40 new species of fish along the SA coastline, collected plants, insects, reptiles, birds and mammals and was an avid naturalist. The annual competition changed its name to "Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize" in 2013. It offered a total prize pool of in that year. The competition was not held in 2015 due to a consultative review on the nature of the competition. Tattersalls Club is a heritage-listed club house at 206 Edward Street (with a second frontage on Queen Street), Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia. Alexander "Sasha" Dmitrievich Grishin is an Australian art historian, art critic and curator based in Victoria and Canberra. He is known as an art critic, and for establishing the academic discipline of art history at the Australian National University (ANU). Early life and history Grishin is the Australian-born child of Russian parents Dmitry Vladimirovich Grishin and Natalia Dmitrievna Luzgina, who arrived in Melbourne in September 1949. He studied art history at the University of Melbourne, State University of Moscow, London and Oxford. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is the main museum in the Northern Territory. The museum is located in the inner Darwin suburb of Fannie Bay.
