Marilyn O'Connor (actress)
Marilyn Palmer O'Connor (born on December 17, 1946) is a Canadian amateur golfer. She won the Canadian Women's Amateur in 1986. She has been inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, and the Golf Hall of Fame of BC. Early life Palmer was born on December 17, 1946, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her father Rod Palmer, who was a professional golfer at the Kamloops Golf and Country Club, taught her how to golf from a young age. While her father was working at the club, she trained with the men and boys. During her early teen years, she won the Vernon ladies' low net title, Kamloops Sweepstakes, and B.C. Women's Closs golf tournament. Within her first year out of the junior ranks, Palmer won the Canadian Women's Close golf championship in 1966. Canadian Women's Amateur
The Canadian Women's Amateur is Canada's annual national amateur golf tournament for women. It is open to women from all countries and is played at a different course each year. History The first championship was held from October 14 to 17, 1901 at Royal Montreal Golf Club. The 50 or so entries played 18 holes of stroke play on the first afternoon, after which the leading eight ladies played three rounds of 18-hole match play on the following three days. Local member Lily Young had the best score on the first day, 99. Scorers of 107 and better reached the quarter-finals. Consolation events were organised for those not in the leading eight. Young reached the final with two comfortable wins where she met Mabel Thomson, of New Brunswick, who only won her semi-final at the 20th hole. Young won the final 2&1. The 1976 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 6–9 October at Vilamoura Golf Club in, Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal. It was the seventh women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 25 teams, each with up to three players. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States team won the Trophy, defending their title from two years ago and winning their sixth consecutive title, beating team France by 17 strokes. France took the silver medal and Brazil, on the podium for the first time, took the bronze. Teams 25 teams contested the event. Each team had three players, except Sri Lanka, who only had two.
