Marilyn John is an American politician serving as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from the 2nd district. John previously served as the mayor of Shelby, Ohio and was a member of the Richland County Commission. Early life and education Growing up, John was encouraged to participate in politics by her family while attending Plymouth High School. After graduating, she enrolled in an associate's program at North Central State College and an MBA program at Ashland University Ashland University is a private university in Ashland, Ohio. Shelby, Ohio
Shelby is a city in Richland County in the U.S. state of Ohio, northwest of the city of Mansfield. It is part of the Mansfield, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,317 as of the 2010 census. History Shelby was originally called Gamble's Mills, and under the latter name was platted in 1834. On April 14, 2019, Shelby was struck by a long tracked EF2 Tornado with winds of 120-125 MPH. At its peak, the tornado was a half mile wide. The tornado damaged more than half a dozen homes, as well as a car dealership on the south of side of Shelby. Geography Shelby is located at (40.884645, -82.659529), along the Black Fork of the Mohican River. Mansfield is a city in and the county seat of Richland County, Ohio, United States. Located midway between Columbus and Cleveland via Interstate 71, it is part of Northeast Ohio region in the western foothills of the Allegheny Plateau. The city lies approximately southwest of Cleveland, southwest of Akron and northeast of Columbus. The city was founded in 1808 on a fork of the Mohican River in a hilly region surrounded by fertile farmlands, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location with numerous railroad lines. The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower house of the Ohio General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Ohio; the other house of the bicameral legislature being the Ohio Senate. The House of Representatives first met in Chillicothe on March 3, 1803, under the later superseded state constitution of that year. In 1816, the capital was moved to Columbus, where it is located today. Members are limited to four successive two-year elected terms (terms are considered successive if they are separated by less than four years).
