Marilyn Huff
Marilyn L. Huff (born March 6, 1951) is a senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. Education and career Huff was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin College in 1972 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 1976. She was in private practice of law in San Diego, California, from 1976 to 1991. Federal judicial service Huff was nominated by President George H. W. Bush on March 12, 1991, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of California vacated by Judge William Benner Enright. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 9, 1991, and received her commission on May 14, 1991. She served as Chief Judge from 1998 to 2005. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. Pamela Ann Rymer (January 6, 1941 - September 21, 2011) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Education and career Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Rymer earned an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Vassar College in 1961 and a Bachelor of Laws from Stanford Law School in 1964.
