Mariken Van Nieumeghen
''Mariken van Nieumeghen'' ''(Mary of Nijmegen)'' is a miracle play recorded in a Middle Dutch text from the early 16th century. The protagonist Mariken of the story spends seven years with the devil, after which she is miraculously released. The oldest edition dates from 1515 and was printed by Willem Vorsterman. Linguistic evidence suggests it was written by a poet from an Antwerp chamber of rhetoric. Themes and genre Like the fourteenth-century '' Beatrijs'', the story involves a beautiful young woman who is seduced, but unlike that poem ''Mariken'' has a lively, "Burgundian" style in often lower-class language, as opposed to the courtly elegance of the ''Beatrijs''. Abraham The Great Of Kashkar
Abraham the Great of Kashkar was the father of the Assyrian monastic revival in the 6th century. He is a doctor and saint of the Assyrian Church of the East. He was born in Kashkar in Persia around 492. He left there to preach the Gospel at Al-Hirah, leaving there to study monastic life at Scetes. Monasticism was very popular in early Syrian and Mesopotamian Christianity. Some held the view that only a life of celibacy could lead to salvation. Initially, all monks and nuns were hermits, but in about 350 Mar Awgin founded the first cenobitic monastery of Mesopotamia on Mount Izla above the city Nisibis, patterned upon the Egyptian model. Soon there were many monasteries. But at the synod of Beth Lapat the Assyrian Church of the East decided that all monks and nuns should marry. Peter van Gestel (3 August 1937, Amsterdam – 1 March 2019, Amsterdam) was a Dutch writer. Career Writing Van Gestel made his debut in 1962 with ''Drempelvrees'', a collection of stories. He received the Reina Prinsen Geerligsprijs for this book. In 1976, he published the book ''Ver van huis'' under the pseudonym Sander Joosten. He made his debut in children's literature with ''Schuilen onder je schooltas'' in 1979. He received the Vlag en Wimpel award for this book. He received the Nienke van Hichtum-prijs 1987 for his book ''Ko Kruier en zijn stadsgenoten'' (1985) with illustrations by Peter van Straaten. André van Duren (born 20 June 1958) is a Dutch film director. Career His 1992 film ''Heading for England'' won the Dutch Film Critics Award at the Netherlands Film Festival. Jos Stelling (born 16 July 1945) is a Dutch film director and screenwriter. Career He made his debut as a film director in 1974 with ''Mariken van Nieumegen'', which was selected for the official Cannes competition in 1975. In 1981 he founded the Dutch Film Days a festival for Dutch directors to give them the possibility to show their films and to create an informal platform for the filmmakers. He continued to serve as chairman and director until the 1991 edition. After he abdicated the festival was renamed the Dutch Film Festival. In 1989 he was a member of the jury at the 16th Moscow International Film Festival. In 2002 he was a member of the jury at the 24th Moscow International Film Festival. He was also the president of the jury of the 1st Odessa International Film Festival. Eugen (originally Eugène) Francis Charles d'Albert (10 April 1864 – 3 March 1932) was a Scottish-born pianist and composer. Educated in Britain, d'Albert showed early musical talent and, at the age of seventeen, he won a scholarship to study in Austria. Feeling a kinship with German culture and music, he soon emigrated to Germany, where he studied with Franz Liszt and began a career as a concert pianist. Luise von Ploennies (7 November 1803 – 22 January 1872) was a German poet. Life She was born at Hanau, the daughter of the naturalist Johann Philipp Achilles Leisler. In 1824 she married the physician August von Ploennies in Darmstadt. After his death in 1847 she resided for some years in Belgium, then at Jugenheim Seeheim-Jugenheim is a municipality in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in Hesse, Germany.
