Marika Gombitová Discography
Slovakia, Slovak recording artist Marika Gombitová entered the music industry in 1975 by recording Promotional recording, promotional compositions entitled "Karta" and "Nájdem hviezdu" for Slovak Radio, SRo Košice. Prior to that, she performed with local Musical ensemble, bands such as Profily (1971–73) and the orchestras of Juraj Szabadoš, respectively of Július Olajoš (1974–75). Following an offer to become a member of Ján Lehotský's ensemble, she joined Modus (band), Modus in 1976 as their only female Singing, vocalist. Simultaneously with staging for the group, Gombitová recorded a number of tracks as solo (music), soloist; among others also "Čo má rieka" and "Deň ako z pohľadnice". Eventually, "Boľavé námestie" was released as her own debut single (music), single issued on OPUS Records in 1977. Her solo breakthrough came along with the second single release "Študentská láska." OPUS Records
Opus was a major Czechoslovak state-owned record label and music publishing house based in Bratislava, now known as Opus a.s.. Background Opus was founded in 1971 and spun off as the Slovak division of music label Supraphon. As such, it was the first Slovak record label. It was privatized in 1990 and purchased by Forza Music s.r.o. in 2005. When Warner Music Group acquired Forza in 2019, they expected to revive the Opus label for pop, rock, and children's music. The label is active to this day and operates under the name Opus a.s. In addition to Slovak, and later Czech, artists and bands, the label also published works by foreign artists from countries including Poland, Hungary, East Germany, Yugoslavia, and Greece. Sopot
Sopot (; or ) is a seaside resort city in Pomerelia on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland, with a population of approximately 40,000. Intervision Song Contest
The Intervision Song Contest (ISC) was an international song competition organised by the International Radio and Television Organisation (OIRT) between 1965 and 1980, and broadcast live to national broadcasters via the Intervision network. The contest took place in several locations in Czechoslovakia, and in the Forest Opera in Sopot, Poland. It was the Eastern Bloc equivalent to the Eurovision Song Contest. The ISC was organised from 1965 to 1968 and again from 1977 to 1980. Since 1977, it replaced the Sopot International Song Festival (Sopot ISF) that had been held in Sopot since 1961. In 1981 the ISC/Sopot ISF was cancelled because of the rise of the independent trade union movement, Solidarity, which was judged by other Eastern bloc communist governments to be "counter-revolutionary". "Vyznanie" (in English transcribed as "Why (Must I Always Fail)?", respectively also known as "Declaration") is a song by the female singer Marika Gombitová released on OPUS in 1979. The composition written by Janko Lehotský, in common with Kamil Peteraj, is referred to as her masterpiece receiving several awards. Including the Silver award at the Bratislavská lýra '79 in the contest of the Czechoslovak songwriters. At the 4th Intervision Song Festival contest in Sopot, Poland the following year, the song won the first prize for the Best Performance in the category representing record companies. The 100 Greatest Slovak Albums Of All Time
The 100 Greatest Slovak Albums of All Time is a list of the best album releases issued by Slovak recording artists. As the first such list presented in Slovakia, it was published by ''Nový čas'' daily on 22 September 2007. The list is entirely composed of Slovak, or else of formerly Czechoslovak artists, featuring all albums published in the country of origin from the 1960s onwards. Some of nominated full-length records could have been performed also in a different language (occasionally in English but partially). Ranking itself was based on votes received from twenty-five selected native-born musicians, critics and/or industry figures. Each of them voted ten most significant Slovak LPs from the past four decades in the country.
