"Marie Marie" is a song by American rock and roll band the Blasters. It became an international success after being covered by Welsh rock and roll singer Shakin' Stevens. Composition and releases The song was originally released in 1980 on the Blaster's debut album '' American Music'' on the small independent label Rollin' Rock. It was then re-recorded a year later for the Blaster's second album ''The Blasters'', released by Slash Records and distributed by Warmer Bros. This album had much better distribution than their first album and "Marie Marie" was released as a single in Australia in 1981 and France and the Netherlands in 1982. Dave Alvin has said "Marie Marie" was "the third or fourth song I wrote with the Blasters". The Blasters
The Blasters are an American rock band formed in 1979 in Downey, California, by brothers Phil Alvin (vocals and guitar) and Dave Alvin (guitar), with bass guitarist John Bazz and drummer Bill Bateman. Their self-described " American Music" is a blend of rockabilly, early rock and roll, punk rock, mountain music, and rhythm and blues and country. ''This Ole House'' is a 1980/1981 album by Welsh rock and roll singer Shakin' Stevens. The album was originally released in October 1980 under the name ''Marie, Marie'' but failed to chart. When single "This Ole House" reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart the album was re-issued in March 1981 with the new title and song added, peaking at No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart. Background The album was originally released in October 1980 on the back of his first top 20 hit " Marie, Marie". However, a later single "This Ole House" became a much bigger hit, peaking at No. 1 for three weeks in March 1981. The album was quickly re-issued with the same cover but now under the title ''This Ole House''. It peaked at No. 2, giving Stevens' his first top ten album. ''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. ''Take One!'' is a 1980 album by British rock and roll singer Shakin' Stevens. It was his first release on Epic Records and his first album to enter the UK charts. The album also featured Stevens' first UK charting single "Hot Dog". Background Often erroneously dated as being released in October 1979, ''Take One!'' was not released until February 1980, after the "Hot Dog" single had become Stevens' first UK hit single. Produced by Mike Hurst, the album contained a host of experienced session men, including lead guitarist Albert Lee, pianist Geraint Watkins, steel guitarist B.J. Cole and bassist and arranger Stuart Colman. The album charted at No.62 in March 1980 and remained on the UK albums chart for two weeks. Harold Lloyd Jenkins (September 1, 1933 – June 5, 1993), better known by his stage name Conway Twitty, was an American singer and songwriter. Initially a part of the 1950s rockabilly scene, Twitty was best known as a country music performer. Stuart Colman
Ian Stuart Colman (19 December 1944 – 19 April 2018) was an English musician, record producer and broadcaster. Allmusic noted that he "has an impressive catalogue as a record producer and much of Shakin' Stevens success can be attributed to Colman". Over the decades, Colman worked with a diverse array of musicians including Billy Fury, The Blasters, Cliff Richard, Phil Everly, Alvin Stardust, The Jets, The Inmates and Little Richard.
