Marie Boozer
Marie Boozer (18461908) was an American socialite and French countess. From provincial Antebellum South, antebellum South Carolina, she escaped with the Union (American Civil War), Union army to New York and ascended into high society. After her divorce she became a member of the Paris demimonde before marrying a count/diplomat and traveling the world. In the process she became an early example of a celebrity pursued by gossip and rumors. Parentage Marie Boozer was from a very patriotic family. Her mother was born Amelia Sees in Philadelphia on 30 January 1819. Amelia's grandfather emigrated from France with his Huguenot family and fought as a lieutenant in a Philadelphia militia during the American Revolution. Her father, George Sees, was a Philadelphia constable. Gorgier Castle
Gorgier Castle (also known as the Château de Gorgier) is a castle in the municipality of Gorgier of the Canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance. History The castle is located close to the city of Neuchâtel and was built around 1620. In 1813, James-Alexandre de Pourtalès acquired the seigneury of Gorgier. The castle was sold to Alphonse-Henri Berthoud-Coulon in 1879 and then acquired by Swiss-born American banker Antoine Borel in 1897. The Borel family retained ownership until 2001, when it was sold to an American family. After being fully restored as a family home between 2004 and 2014, the castle was for sale by Sotheby's Realty around August 2014, but is no longer listed. Ben Holladay
Benjamin Holladay (October 14, 1819 – July 8, 1887) was an American transportation businessman responsible for creating the Overland Stage to California during the height of the 1849 California Gold Rush. He created a stagecoach empire and is known in history as the "Stagecoach King". A native of Kentucky, he also was hired as a private courier to General Alexander Doniphan of Missouri, who refused point-blank to carry out orders to kill the Mormons during the 1838 Mormon War in Missouri. His transportation empire later included steamships and railroads in Oregon. Early life Holladay was born October 14, 1819, in Nicholas County, Kentucky.
