Maricel Museum
The Maricel Museum is a museum located in the centre of Sitges; reopened after a major refurbishment in 2015. The Maricel Museum is part of the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network. Content In 1969, the Barcelona Provincial Corporation bought the building of Maricel de Mar to house the heterogeneous collection belonging to Doctor Jesús Pérez-Rosales (Manila, 1896-Barcelona, 1989), a well known gynaecologist and enthusiastic collector. A year later the Museu Maricel was inaugurated. Sitges (, , ) is a town about 35 kilometres southwest of Barcelona, in Spain, renowned worldwide for its Sitges Film Festival, Film Festival, Carnival, and LGBT culture, LGBT Culture. Joaquim Sunyer () (Sitges, 1874–1956) was a Catalan painter often linked to the Noucentisme movement. He began his artistic education with his uncle, Joaquim Mir, later moving to Barcelona where his fellow students included Joaquín Torres García, Isidro Nonell,Cowling and Mundy, p. 251. and Joaquin Mir Trinxet. In 1896 he moved to Paris, where he became acquainted with the neo-impressionist movement and worked extensively in the style. His paintings of this period include street scenes of working-class life. Charles Deering (July 31, 1852 – February 5, 1927) was an American businessman, art collector, and philanthropist. He was an executive of the agricultural machinery company founded by his father that became International Harvester. Charles's successful stewardship of the family firm left him with the means and leisure to indulge his interests in the arts and natural sciences. Ramon Casas i Carbó (; 4 January 1866 – 29 February 1932) was a Catalan artist. Living through a turbulent time in the history of his native Barcelona, he was known as a portraitist, sketching and painting the intellectual, economic, and political elite of Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, and beyond.
