Marica (mythology)
In Roman mythology, Marica was a nymph, the mother of Latinus. Latinus was fathered by Faunus, who was also occasionally referred to as the son of Marica. The sacred forest near Minturnae was dedicated to Marica. A lake nearby was also named after her. Marica Gajić (27 April 1995, Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is a Bosnian basketball player. She is a member and current captain of the women's basketball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Marica Vilcek (born October 13, 1936) is an American art historian and philanthropist. She has worked with museums and arts institutions in both Czechoslovakia and the United States, and is known for working with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York University Institute of Fine Arts, and the Vilcek Foundation, and for her philanthropic work on the boards of the New York Youth Symphony and the Foundation for a Civil Society. Marica Stražmešter (Serbian Cyrillic: Марица Cтражмештер, born 28 August 1981) is a two-time Serbian Olympic swimmer. Stražmešter represented FR Yugoslavia at the 2000 Summer Olympics in 100 and 200m backstroke. Eight years later, she represented Serbia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in 100m backstroke. Marica (Marija) Stanković (born Vragović; 31 December 1900 – 8 October 1957), known as "Sister Marica" ( hr, Sestra Marica), was a Croatian school teacher, writer, Catholic Laity, layperson and founder of the Associates of Christ the King (''Suradnice Krista Kralja''). Along with Ivan Merz, she was among the most prominent members and initiators of Catholic movements in Croatia in the first half of the 20th century. Marica Nadlišek Bartol (February 10, 1867 – January 3, 1940) was a Slovenian writer and editor. From 1897 to 1899, she served as founding editor of the influential women's journal ''Slovenka''. Forced to flee her home city of Trieste in 1919 after the Italian takeover, she settled in Ljubljana and resumed her Slovenian nationalist and feminist writing and activism, which had been cut short by her marriage two decades earlier. Marica Branchesi (Urbino, March 7, 1977) is an Italian astrophysicist. Her leadership and scientific work was pivotal for Virgo/LIGO's discovery of gravitational waves. She is vice president of International Astronomical Union Gravitational Wave Astrophysics Commission and member of the Gravitational Wave International Committee.
