Mariama Bâ
Mariama Bâ (April 17, 1929 – August 17, 1981) was a Senegalese author and feminist, whose two French-language novels were both translated into more than a dozen languages. Born in Dakar, she was raised a Muslim. Her frustration with the fate of African women is expressed in her first novel, ''Une si longue lettre'' (1979; translated into English as ''So Long a Letter''). In this semi-autobiographical epistolary work, Bâ depicts the sorrow and resignation of a woman who must share the mourning for her late husband with his second, younger wife. This short book was awarded the first Noma Award for Publishing in Africa in 1980. Biography Bâ was born in Dakar, Senegal, in 1929, into an educated and well-to-do Senegalese family of Lebu ethnicity. Mariama Keïta
Mariama Keïta (1946 – 29 October 2018) was Niger's first woman journalist and feminist activist. Biography Keïta was born in 1946 in Niamey. She began as an editor and presenter of a newspaper and on the public radio station ''La Voix du Sahel''. In 1993, she participated in the popularization of the Constitution of Niger, which allowed the holding of the first democratic elections of the country. From 2003 to 2006, Keïta was the president of the Higher Council of Communication (CSC), the body responsible for the regulation of the country's media. During her last years of her career, she worked as the director of ''La Voix du Sahel''. Mariama White-Hammond is an African-American minister and community activist working on environmental, racial and economic justice issues. She is the founding pastor of New Roots African Methodist Episcopal Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Prior to her ordination in the AME Church, she was the director of Project HIP-HOP, a youth organization that uses arts as a way to communicate and educate on social justice topics. Mariama Sow (born 19 May 2000) is a Guinean swimmer. She competed in the women's 50 metre freestyle event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she ranked 87th with a time of 39.85 seconds. Mariama Camara Signaté (born 22 July 1985 in Dakar, Senegal) is a French handball player. Her playing position is left back. Career Club Signaté's former clubs include Toulon, where she played from 1990 to 2003, Le Havre, of which she was part from 2003 to 2005, and Fleury les Aubrais (2005–2008). In 2008, she switched to HBC Nîmes with that she reached the final of the French League Cup in her first season. Mariama Owusu is a Ghanaian judge. She has been on the bench since 1990 and was nominated a judge of the Supreme Court Judge in November 2019. She was sworn in on 17 December 2019 after gaining parliamentary approval. Early life and education Owusu was born on 18 November 1954.
