Mariachi Plaza Station
Mariachi Plaza station is an underground light rail station on the L Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located under 1st Street at its at the intersection of Boyle Avenue, with the main exit located at Mariachi Plaza, after which the station is named. The plaza is the historic gateway to the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. This station opened in 2009 as part of the Gold Line Eastside Extension and was one of two underground stations on the Eastside Extension (the other being Soto). This station and all the other Eastside Extension stations will be part of the E Line upon completion of the Regional Connector project in 2023. Until 1963, the Los Angeles Railway's P Line yellow streetcars operated on the surface of 1st Street, including a stop near this station. 1st Street (Los Angeles)
1st Street is an east–west thoroughfare in Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, and Monterey Park, California. It serves as a postal divider between north and south and is one of a few streets to run across the Los Angeles River. Regional Connector
The Regional Connector Transit Project is a transit project currently constructing a light rail tunnel for the Los Angeles Metro Rail system in Downtown Los Angeles. It is designed to connect the A Line and E Line, which currently end at 7th Street/Metro Center station, to the existing L Line and Union Station. When completed, the project will provide a one-seat ride into the core of Downtown for passengers on those lines who currently need to transfer, and it will reduce or eliminate transfers for many passengers traveling across the region via Downtown. Hollenbeck Park is a city park in the Boyle Heights district of Los Angeles, California. It is located on the corner of Saint Louis and Fourth Streets, near Boyle Avenue. Mariachi Plaza Station LACMTA
Mariachi (, , ) is a genre of regional Mexican music that dates back to at least the 18th century, evolving over time in the countryside of various regions of western Mexico. The usual mariachi group today consists of as many as eight violins, two trumpets and at least one guitar, including a high-pitched vihuela and an acoustic bass guitar called a guitarrón, and all players taking turns singing lead and doing backup vocals. From the 19th to 20th century, migrations from rural areas into Guadalajara, along with the Mexican government's cultural promotion gradually re-labeled it as ''son'' style, with its alternative name of ''mariachi'' becoming used for the 'urban' form. The Los Angeles Railway (also known as Yellow Cars, LARy and later Los Angeles Transit Lines) was a system of streetcars that operated in Central Los Angeles and surrounding neighborhoods between 1895 and 1963.
