Maria Walliser
Maria Walliser (born 27 May 1963) is a Swiss former alpine skiing, alpine skier. Career Walliser grew up in Mosnang, the daughter of a wealthy cattle breeder. She made her World Cup debut in 1980. Together with her fellow Swiss Erika Hess, Michela Figini and Vreni Schneider she dominated female alpine skiing during the 1980s. Among her many successes, she won two overall FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cups (1986 and 1987). Walliser also won three world titles in 1987 and 1989, as well as three Olympic medals at 1988 Winter Olympics, 1988 Calgary and 1984 Winter Olympics, 1984 Sarajevo. Walliser retired in 1990 with a World Cup tally of 72 podium finishes, including 25 victories. In 2000, she became president of "Die Stiftung Folsäure Offensive Schweiz", a Swiss health organization fighting folate deficiency. Mosnang
Mosnang is a village and municipality in the constituency (''Wahlkreis'') of Toggenburg in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. History Mosnang is first mentioned in 854 as ''Masinang''. Geography Mosnang has an area, , of . Of this area, 47.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 48.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 3.8% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.2%) is non-productive (rivers or lakes). The municipality is located in the Toggenburg ''Wahlkreis''. It consists of the villages of Mosnang, Mühlrüti and Libingen as well as the hamlets of Dreien and Wiesen. The municipality also includes Hulftegg Pass. Downhill (ski Competition)
Downhill is a form of alpine skiing competition. Whereas the other alpine skiing events (Slalom skiing, slalom, Giant slalom skiing, giant slalom, Super Giant Slalom skiing, super giant slalom, and alpine skiing combined, combined) emphasize turning and technique, downhill emphasizes "the six components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement", according to the International Ski Federation, FIS "International Ski Competition Rules (ICR)".. 1983–84 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup
The 18th World Cup season began in December 1983 in Kranjska Gora, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia), and concluded in March 1984 in Oslo, Norway. The overall champions were Pirmin Zurbriggen (his first) and Erika Hess (her second), both of Switzerland. A break in the schedule in February was for the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (now Bosnia). The debate over amateur and professional status of world-class skiers came to a head this year over the issue of the Olympic eligibility of the holders of FIS Class B licenses, which were approved in 1981 to permit skiers to accept sponsorship money directly instead of through their national ski federations or Olympic committees.
