''Portrait of Maria Trip'' (c.1639) is an oil painting on panel by the Dutch painter Rembrandt. It is an example of Dutch Golden Age painting and is now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum. This painting was documented by Hofstede de Groot in 1915, who wrote:845. A YOUNG WOMAN AT A STONE BALUSTRADE. Bode 19; Dut. 283; Wb. 352; B.-HdG. 274. About thirty-five. Half-length; life size. She stands, inclined to the left, and looks at the spectator. She holds her fan in her left hand, which rests on the balustrade. Her brown hair is uncovered and falls in ringlets on her brow. Her figured black silk gown is cut out at the throat and trimmed with rosettes; over it is a triple collar of rich lace, lying flat. Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (, ; 15 July 1606 – 4 October 1669), usually simply known as Rembrandt, was a Dutch Golden Age painter, printmaker and draughtsman. Isa Van Eeghen
Isabella Henriette van Eeghen (3 February 1913 – 26 November 1996), usually cited as I. H. van Eeghen, was a Dutch historian who worked for the Stadsarchief Amsterdam. Early life and education Van Eeghen was born in Amsterdam as the daughter of the banker Christiaan Pieter van Eeghen in an Amsterdam canal mansion on 497 Herengracht that today is known as the KattenKabinet. Her father and grandfather were directors of Van Eeghen & Co. a bank active on the Herengracht since the 17th-century. Today, what remains of the firm is part of Bank Oyens & Van Eeghen. The young Isa was therefore quite wealthy, and determined to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, also called Christiaan Pieter van Eeghen, who in his free time set up the Vondelpark and was responsible for various improvements to the Van der Hoop museum in 1854, the forerunner of the Rijksmuseum. Carel Vosmaer
Carel Vosmaer (20 March 1826 – 12 June 1888) was a Dutch poet and art critic, born at The Hague. He wrote under the pseudonym Flanor. Life He studied law at the University of Leiden, obtaining a degree in 1851, and was for many years Deputy Recorder to the High Court of Justice in his native town, "an office he resigned in 1873, in order to devote himself wholly to art and letters." His first volume of poems, 1860, did not contain much that was remarkable. His temperament was starved in the very thin air of the intellectual the Netherlands of those days, and it was not until after the sensational appearance of Multatuli (pen name of Edward Douwes-Dekker) that Vosmaer, at the age of forty, woke up to a consciousness of his own talent. In 1869 he produced an exhaustive monograph on Rembrandt, which was issued in French. The ''Gazette des Beaux-Arts'' was a French art review, founded in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as its first chief editor. Assia Visson Rubinstein was chief editorial secretary under the direction of George Wildenstein from 1936 until 1960. Her papers, which include all editions of the ''Gazette'' from this period, are intact at the Cantonal and University Library of Lausanne in Dorigny university campus, Dorigny. The ''Gazette'' was a world reference work on art history for nearly 100 years - one other editor in chief, from 1955 to 1987, was Jean Adhémar. It was bought in 1928 by the Wildenstein family, whose last representative was Daniel Wildenstein, its director from 1963 until his death in 2001. Alfred Wurzbach Ritter von Tannenberg (born 22 July 1846 in Lemberg; died 18 May 1915 in Vienna) was an Austrian art critic. Biography He was the son of Constantin von Wurzbach. He studied jurisprudence in Vienna and entered the civil service, but resigned in 1876 and devoted himself entirely to the study of art history. He was art critic for the ''Wiener Allgemeine Zeitung'' from 1881 to 1886. Oil On Panel
A panel painting is a painting made on a flat panel of wood, either a single piece or a number of pieces joined together. Until canvas became the more popular support medium in the 16th century, panel painting was the normal method, when not painting directly onto a wall (fresco) or on vellum (used for miniature (illuminated manuscript), miniatures in illuminated manuscripts). Wood panels were also used for mounting vellum paintings. History Panel painting is very old; it was a very prestigious medium in Greece and Rome, but only very few examples of ancient panel paintings have survived.
