Maria Del Mar (singer)
Maria Morales (born ), known professionally as Maria Del Mar, is a Canadian rock singer. She was the lead vocalist of the 1980s and 1990s rock band National Velvet. Early life Del Mar was born in Spain, where she lived until 18 months of age. As a child she danced in Spanish cultural shows and enjoyed holding public singing performances in her neighbourhood. At the age of 15, she dropped out of high school and moved to Vancouver. She later worked as a cigarette girl at Toronto nightclubs, such as RPM and The Copa. She also worked as a coat-check girl at The Diamond, where fellow National Velvet band member, Tim Welch, once worked as well. Career Del Mar met bassist Mark Storm in 1984 in a Toronto alleyway outside of party, where the two had a heated discussion about music. María del Mar Blanco Garrido (born 29 March 1974) is a Spanish People's Party (Spain), People's Party (PP) politician. She has served as a member of the Basque Parliament (2009–2012), Congress of Deputies (2016–2019) and Assembly of Madrid (since 2021). Biography Born in Ermua, Biscay, Blanco was the younger sister of People's Party councillor Miguel Ángel Blanco, who was kidnapped and murdered by ETA (separatist group), ETA at the age of 29 in 1997. Their parents Consuelo and Miguel, who migrated from the Province of Ourense in Galicia (Spain), Galicia, both died in March 2020; their former died of COVID-19. Maria del Mar Bonet i Verdaguer (Balearic Catalan: ; born 1947 in Palma, Majorca) is a Spanish singer from the island of Majorca. Early life and career Bonet studied ceramics in the school of arts, but eventually decided to dedicate herself to music. María del Mar Rodríguez Carnero, better known by her stage name La Mari, was born in Málaga, Spain and is the lead vocalist of Chambao. One of three original members of the group that formed in 2001, she sang alongside cousins Eduardo Casañ and Daniel Casañ, until Chambao disbanded in 2005.
