Maria Christian
Maria Doyle-Cuche (born 6 May 1965) is an Irish singer who represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1985. In 2016, she auditioned for ''The Voice of Ireland'', and was selected by coach Una Foden in the audition round. In 2020, she took part of '' The Voice France'', in which she went to the semi-finals coached by Lara Fabian. Since the age of nine, Maria has been 95% legally blind. She is the author of an autobiographical book in French entitled "On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur" (''One Can Only Truly See with the Heart'', 2018). Biography Childhood She was born in 1965 in Dundalk, Ireland, to a poverty-stricken mother in a mother and baby home. Dundalk
Dundalk ( ; ga, Dún Dealgan ), meaning "the fort of Dealgan", is the county town (the administrative centre) of County Louth, Ireland. The town is on the Castletown River, which flows into Dundalk Bay on the east coast of Ireland. It is halfway between Dublin and Belfast, close to the border with Northern Ireland. Luv Bug are a Northern Irish pop band originating from Newry. They are most famous for representing Ireland in the ''Eurovision Song Contest'' in 1986 with the song " You Can Count on Me". Career The earliest incarnation of the group were formed as an amateur teenage band in early 1977. Playing local gigs they were then taken on by manager Michael Magill and went professional in late 1982 and consisted of sister and brothers June (lead vocals), Hugh (bass) and Max (guitar) Cunningham along with Ricky Meyler (vocals and keyboards) and Majella Grant (drums). They became successful as a live act throughout Ireland and released their first single "Red Light Spells Danger" in 1984. The song was a cover of the Billy Ocean track and was followed up by a string of their own compositions, many of which became hits on the Irish Charts. "Terminal 3" was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984, performed in English by Linda Martin. The song was written and composed by previous contest winner Johnny Logan, who had won for Ireland in the 1980 contest and would later go on to win the 1987 contest as a performer before writing another song for Martin to win in with. The result of this song is thus part of Logan's positioning as the most successful contest entrant in history. The song itself is a moderately up-tempo number, with Martin singing about her feelings while waiting for her lover to disembark from a flight from the United States.
