Marguerite Clark
Helen Marguerite Clark (February 22, 1883 – September 25, 1940) was an American theatre, stage and silent film actress. As a movie actress, at one time, Clark was second only to Mary Pickford in popularity. All but five of her films are considered lost. Early life and theatre Born in Avondale, Cincinnati, Ohio on February 22, 1883, she was the third child of Augustus "Gus" James and Helen Elizabeth Clark. She had an older sister, Cora, and an older brother named Clifton. Clark's mother Helen died on January 21, 1893. Her father worked in his self-owned successful haberdashery located in downtown Cincinnati before his death on December 29, 1896. Following his death, Clark's sister Cora was appointed her legal guardian and removed her from public school to further her education at Ursuline Academy (Cincinnati, Ohio), Ursuline Academy. ''Snow White'' is a 1916 American silent romantic fantasy film directed by J. Searle Dawley. It was adapted by Winthrop Ames from his own 1912 Broadway play ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'', which was in turn adapted from the 1812 fairy tale (as collected by the Grimm brothers). A feature film or feature-length film is a narrative film (motion picture or "movie") with a running time long enough to be considered the principal or sole presentation in a commercial entertainment program. The term ''feature film'' originally referred to the main, full-length film in a cinema program that included a short film and often a newsreel. The Famous Players Film Company was a film company founded in 1912 by Adolph Zukor in partnership with the Frohman brothers, powerful New York City theatre impresario. History Discussions to form the company were held at The Lambs, a famous theater club where Charles and Daniel Frohman were members. The company advertised "Famous Players in Famous Plays" and its first release was the French film ''Les Amours de la reine Élisabeth'' (1912) starring Sarah Bernhardt and Lou Tellegen. Its first actual production was ''The Count of Monte Cristo'' (1912, released 1913), directed by Edwin S. Porter and starring James O'Neill, the father of dramatist Eugene O'Neill. In 1914, the company purchased the former headquarters of New York City's Ninth Mounted Cavalry unit at 221 West 26th Street in Manhattan. Adolph Zukor (; hu, Zukor Adolf; January 7, 1873 – June 10, 1976) was a Hungarian-American film producer best known as one of the three founders of Paramount Pictures.Obituary '' Variety'' (June 16, 1976), p. 76. Winthrop Ames (November 25, 1870 – November 3, 1937) was an American theatre director and producer, playwright and screenwriter. For three decades at the beginning of the 20th century, Ames was an important force on Broadway, whose repertoire included directing and producing Shakespeare and classic plays, new plays, and revivals of Gilbert and Sullivan's Savoy operas. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is a 19th-century German fairy tale that is today known widely across the Western world. The Brothers Grimm published it in 1812 in the first edition of their collection ''Grimms' Fairy Tales'' and numbered as Tale 53. The original German title was ''Sneewittchen'', a Low German form, but the first version gave the High German translation ''Schneeweißchen'', and the tale has become known in German by the mixed form ''Schneewittchen''. The Grimms completed their final revision of the story in 1854, which can be found in the in 1957 version of ''Grimms' Fairy Tales''. Gail Kane (born Abigail Kane; July 10, 1885 – February 17, 1966) was an American stage and silent movie actress. Early years Kane was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended a private school in Newburgh, New York, but eschewed additional education to become an actress. She became a dedicated student of the art of pantomime. She stood 5'7" tall, weighed 142 pounds, and had dark brown hair and eyes. Theatrical actress Kane performed at the Lyceum Theatre in ''Heap Game Watch'' in January 1914. Doris Keane (December 12, 1881 – November 25, 1945) was an American actress, primarily in live theatre. Early life and family Keane was born in Michigan to Joseph Keane and Florence Winter. She was educated privately in Chicago, New York, Paris, and Rome and at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Career Her first professional role was in ''Whitewashing Julia'' in 1903. This was a small role, but she went on to play leading roles in ''The Happy Marriage'' in 1909 and ''The Lights o' London'' in 1911.
