Margriet Heymans
Margriet Heymans (born 29 October 1932) is a Dutch writer and illustrator of children's literature. Heymans wrote and illustrated various books in collaboration with her sister Annemie Heymans, including ''Het poppenfeest'' (1971), ''De gele draad'' (1982), ''Adam Wortel krijgt bezoek'' (1986) and ''De prinses van de moestuin'' (1991). Early life Heymans was born in 1932 in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. After attending a gymnasium Heymans studied for two years at the ''School voor Kunst en Kunstnijverheid'' in 's-Hertogenbosch. She then moved to Amsterdam to study at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten. Career Heymans first published in 1958 in children's magazine ''Kris Kras''. Heymans has illustrated various books written by Dutch authors, including ''Annetje Lie in het holst van de nacht'' by Imme Dros and ''Ik was de zee'' by Ienne Biemans. 's-Hertogenbosch
s-Hertogenbosch (), colloquially known as Den Bosch (), is a city and municipality in the Netherlands with a population of 157,486. It is the capital of the province of North Brabant and its fourth largest by population. The city is south of the Maas river and near the Waal; it is to the north east of the city of Tilburg, north west of Eindhoven, south west of Nijmegen, and a longer distance south of Utrecht and south east of Dordrecht. History The city's official name is a contraction of the (archaic) Dutch ''des Hertogen bosch'' — "the forest of the duke". The Nienke van Hichtum-prijs (Dutch for Nienke van Hichtum Prize) is a biennial Dutch literary award for children's literature awarded by the Jan Campert-Stichting. The award is named after children's author Nienke van Hichtum and was first awarded in 1964. Annet Schaap with her book ''Lampje'' is the first author to have received this award with a debut novel. Zilveren Griffel
The Gouden Griffel (Golden Stylus) is an award given to authors of children's or teenagers' literature in the Netherlands. History Since 1971, it is awarded each year during the Dutch Children's Books Week, by the Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (Dutch Book Promotion Society) for the best children's books written in the past year. Between 1954 and 1970, one book per year was declared the "children's book of the year". Since then, ''griffels'' are awarded in several categories. Only novels written in Dutch are eligible for the ''gouden griffel''. However, the runner-up awards (Silver ''griffels'') can also be given to translated works. Aside from these, the ''Gouden Penseel'' (golden paintbrush) is awarded to the best illustrated children's books (with silver ''penseel'' as a runner-up), and since 1997 the Gouden Zoen (golden kiss, with silver as a runner-up) is awarded to the best books for teenagers.
